PAU Kisan Mela 2026: CM Mann Inaugurates Mega Farmer Fair With New Technology, Machinery and Crop Varieties

The two-day PAU Kisan Mela 2026 has begun at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, bringing farmers from Punjab and neighbouring states together to explore new crop varieties, modern farm machinery and scientific farming practices. The event is being held on September 18 and 19 under the theme “Adopt Scientific Methods, Increase Farm Income.”
Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann inaugurated the Kisan Mela and also honoured progressive farmers and experts for their contribution to agriculture. PAU Vice Chancellor and Registrar S. Sukhjitpal Singh presided over the opening ceremony, while Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khuddia attended as the special guest.
New Farm Technology and Machinery on Display
The Kisan Mela features more than 310 stalls showcasing agricultural technologies, farm machinery, crop varieties, seeds, plants and farming solutions. PAU departments, private companies and machinery manufacturers are participating in the event.
Farmers can interact directly with agricultural scientists to discuss crop diseases, pests, cultivation problems and suitable crop varieties for the coming season. Question-and-answer sessions are also being organised to provide practical guidance.
Special demonstrations focus on stubble management, including machines such as the Surface Seeder, Smart Seeder and Super Seeder. PAU is also demonstrating technologies such as tractor-operated seeders, auto-steering systems, drones and other modern farming equipment.
New Rabi Crop Varieties and Farming Solutions
The event is focused strongly on preparations for the Rabi season. PAU is showcasing newly released varieties, including PBW 887 and PBW 927 wheat, LL 1613 masar, SML 2575 summer mungbean, Punjab Raya Canola 7 and Punjab Raya 813 mustard. Fruit and vegetable varieties are also being displayed.
Farmers can also explore PAU-developed seeds, fruit plants, vegetable plants and agricultural literature. Demonstrations on vegetable nursery raising, potato aeroponics and other modern techniques are aimed at helping farmers improve productivity and farm income.
Cultural Programme and Farmer-Scientist Interaction
The Kisan Mela is also featuring a cultural programme for visitors. Punjabi artists including Surjit Bhullar and Daljit Dhaleriya are performing during the event.
The mela provides farmers with an opportunity to meet scientists, machinery manufacturers and agricultural experts under one platform. With its focus on scientific farming, crop diversification, resource conservation and modern technology, the event aims to help farmers prepare for the upcoming crop season while improving farm profitability and protecting natural resources. PAU has also organised awareness activities promoting scientific and sustainable agriculture during the mela.
