At Auto Expo 2023, MTA E-Mobility (MTA EV), a 100% subsidiary of the renowned Indian auto component manufacturer MT Autocraft, unveiled Shera, the country's first electric three-wheeler with an automatic dual-speed transmission. MT Autocraft is based in India. The introduction of these new models by MTA E-Mobility represents a significant advancement for the Indian EV market.

Recently, two new models in the electric three-wheeler segment were introduced by MTA E-mobility. These two new models, the Shera Comfy and the Shera R8 are the first dual-speed e3Ws available in the Indian market thanks to their dual-speed transmission.

The advantages of dual-speed transmission vehicles are given below:

  • The vehicle's electric motor and two-speed transmission work together to increase the vehicle's torque and gears.
  • The ability to transmit in both directions of rotation increases flexibility in the structural design while also increasing torque.

The new Shera Range is available in two variants:

  • Shera R8 – a cargo vehicle
  • Shera Comfy – a commercial passenger vehicle.

We can say that Shera Comfy is an electric car for passengers, and Shera R8 is an electric truck. Shera Range was created after more than three years of joint Indo-Korean research. It is the safest and most affordable electric three-wheeler in the market.

Prices of Shera Comfy and Shera R8 in India

The Shera Comfy and Shera R8 were introduced in the L5 category with introductory starting prices of INR 3.45 lakh and INR 3.9 lakh, respectively. The Shera e3W is a desirable option for customers looking for a reasonably priced and environmentally friendly mode of transportation because these prices are quite competitive when compared to other EVs currently offered on the Indian market.

Advantages of Shera Comfy and Shera R8

Shera Comfy is an upgraded, comfortable, and safe solution for passenger applications in first and last-mile mobility. Shera R8 is intended to provide a profitable solution for individuals and fleet owners in the cargo application.

Specifications of Shera Comfy and Shera R8

With an 8.5 kW motor and automatic transmission, the Shera range of electric three-wheelers provides a longer range with minimal power consumption and maximum torque at low speed (RPM), resulting in a mileage of 125 km at a payload of 550 kg.

Features of Shera Comfy and Shera R8

  • Both variations are offered with manual and automatic transmissions.
  • Maximum Volume capacity, GPS-enabled fleet management, GPS-enabled e-locks for secured logistics, seat belt alarm, and moveable service/breakdown
  • Additionally, it provides value-added features like a refrigeration system, driver monitoring system, and advanced driver assistance (ADAS), making the Shera Range a more popular option for last-mile transportation that is both safe and secure.

Conclusion

In India right now, there are a number of electric three-wheeler brands, including Mahindra Electric, Piaggio India, and Kinetic Green. These businesses have been working to design and produce EVs that are competitively priced, dependable, and appropriate for the Indian market. Additionally, they are spending money on constructing a charging infrastructure and raising public awareness.

In the lower and middle classes, electric three-wheelers are the new means of making money. The sum of all these initiatives will result in an EV revolution in the Indian market. This will not only help to lessen the nation's reliance on fossil fuels but it will also lower city pollution levels and improve the environment as a whole. India is on its way to dominating the international EV market with the help of the public and private sectors.
