Montra Electric Crosses 1,000 E-CV Sales Milestone; 810 Units Sold in 2026

Montra Electric has crossed the 1,000-unit sales milestone in India, with 1,126 zero-emission commercial vehicles sold since its market entry in January 2025. The company has delivered 810 units, or around 72% of its total sales, between January and September 20, 2026, highlighting the rising demand for electric commercial vehicles (e-CVs).

The Chennai-based Murugappa Group company manufactures and markets electric commercial vehicles under the Montra brand. According to Vahan data, Montra Electric recorded cumulative retail sales of 1,126 electric four-wheeled commercial vehicles from January 2025 to September 20, 2026.

Montra Electric E-CV Sales Rise in 2026

Montra Electric's sales have gained strong momentum this year. Of its total 1,126 e-CV deliveries, 810 units were sold during the first nine months of 2026.

The company and Tivolt EVs, which markets Montra's electric small commercial vehicles, ranked ninth among India's top 10 e-CV original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) during January-August 2026. The period recorded a record 23,540 electric commercial vehicle sales in India.

Montra Electric's growing sales have also increased its e-CV market share to around 3% in January-August 2026, compared with 1% during the same period in 2025.

The majority of Montra's electric commercial vehicle sales currently come from its Eviator electric mini-truck range, while the company's Rhino electric heavy commercial vehicles are aimed at high-load industrial applications.

Eviator Mini-Truck Drives Montra's Sales

The Eviator 350 and Eviator 350L+ form the core of Montra Electric's small electric commercial vehicle portfolio. These models are marketed through Tivolt Electric Vehicles, the company's e-SCV division.

Montra's 2026 sales data show that July was its strongest month so far, with 148 units delivered, followed by August with 126 units. During the first 20 days of September, the company delivered another 95 electric commercial vehicles.

The Eviator 350 comes with a 32 kWh battery and is primarily aimed at urban last-mile delivery operators. The Eviator 350L+ uses a larger 50 kWh battery and is designed for intercity and high-demand applications, including refrigerated transportation and municipal services.

The Eviator offers a claimed real-world range of up to 170 km on a single charge and can carry a full payload of 1,707 kg. The Eviator 350L+ has a certified range of up to 300 km.

The existing Montra 40 kWh version also remains available, giving fleet operators three battery configurations on the same vehicle platform. Using a 30 kW DC fast charger, the Eviator can charge from 20% to 100% in around one hour and 29 minutes.

Montra Rhino 55-Tonne Electric Truck

Alongside its electric mini-truck portfolio, Montra Electric is expanding into the heavy commercial vehicle segment with the Rhino 55-tonne electric HCV.

The Rhino is available as a 6x4 Tractor Trailer, offering a claimed range of up to 169 km per charge, and a 4x2 Tractor Trailer, with a claimed range of up to 198 km.

The electric HCV uses a battery-swapping solution that can replace the battery in a claimed seven minutes, helping reduce vehicle downtime for commercial fleet operators. Montra also claims up to 70% lower operating costs and reduced total cost of ownership compared with diesel trucks.

The Rhino comes with advanced telematics and intelligent fleet management systems. It is designed for demanding applications across logistics, construction, mining, cement and port infrastructure, where heavy-load transportation is required.

260-Unit Rhino Fleet Order

Montra Electric began commercial deployment of the Rhino this year. In early July 2026, the company dispatched its first batch of 65 Rhino electric HCVs from its manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana.

The initial dispatch formed the first phase of a larger 260-unit fleet order, planned for commercial deployment across major domestic industrial freight corridors in India.

India E-CV Market Outlook

The wider electric commercial vehicle market is also expected to benefit from changing fuel and geopolitical conditions. The continuing West Asia crude oil crisis and rising geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region have affected global supply chains and pushed crude oil prices higher.

Brent crude, which was below US$70 per barrel in January 2026, had risen above US$101 per barrel by September 20. Higher fuel costs could encourage commercial fleet operators to consider electric vehicles as an alternative to conventional diesel-powered commercial vehicles.

Montra Electric is expected to benefit from this shift towards electric mobility. Based on its current sales momentum, the company is projected to record its best-ever annual sales of around 1,100 units in calendar year 2026.

The Indian electric commercial vehicle industry is also estimated to record retail sales of around 40,000-42,000 units in 2026, indicating continued growth in demand for electric trucks and mini-trucks.

Montra's growing presence across both the small electric commercial vehicle and heavy electric truck segments places the company among the manufacturers participating in India's expanding shift towards zero-emission freight transportation.
