8-forward and 4-reverse multi-speed transmission.
More than 500 field hours completed.
Bengaluru-based Mecwin Technologies has developed a 45 HP-class electric tractor powertrain after three years of development. The company is now exploring partnerships with tractor manufacturers to integrate the electric powertrain into their vehicles.
Instead of launching a complete electric tractor under its own brand, Mecwin plans to supply its powertrain technology directly to tractor OEMs. The system is designed for tractors in the 40–55 HP segment and has already completed more than 500 field hours of testing.
Mecwin says its electric tractor development begins at the tyre-soil interface rather than focusing only on motor performance. The company studies factors such as tractive force, wheel torque, ground speed, implement resistance and wheel slip.
These requirements are then used to determine the motor's torque-speed range, transmission ratios, inverter loading and cooling needs.
According to Anil Sagar B M, Head - NPD, Mecwin Technologies, electric tractor performance is decided at the tyre-soil interface and not by the motor alone. He added that the motor, transmission, controls and thermal system are engineered together to match the working requirements and duty cycle of individual tractor applications.
The current platform uses a 30 kW-class electric drive operating at approximately 400V. It is paired with an eight-forward and four-reverse multi-speed transmission.
The powertrain package also includes:
Differential and final drive
Driven rear axle
Motor controller
CAN and vehicle-control interfaces
Mecwin has designed several components to be configurable according to the tractor manufacturer's vehicle architecture.
The electric powertrain can be adapted according to an OEM's chassis, tyres, implements, working speeds and duty cycle.
Manufacturers can also configure important elements such as:
PTO and hydraulic-power interfaces
Final-drive ratio
Vehicle packaging
Software calibration
Mecwin says the system will not be offered as a single universal gearbox. Instead, the powertrain will be customised for individual tractor applications and operating requirements.
The next phase of development with tractor manufacturers is expected to include vehicle definition, simulation, packaging, prototype integration, calibration, field validation and production industrialisation.
Mecwin will bring together its expertise in electric machines, power electronics, controls, mechanical driveline development and validation during the OEM integration programme.
The company believes this system-level approach is particularly important for agricultural tractors, which often operate for long hours at low ground speeds while facing continuously changing loads and implement resistance.

Mecwin Technologies 45 HP electric tractor powertrain represents an OEM-focused approach to agricultural electrification. Designed for tractors operating in the 40–55 HP range, the system combines a 30 kW electric drive with configurable transmission and vehicle interfaces. With over 500 field hours completed, Mecwin is now focusing on OEM partnerships, prototype integration, field validation and eventual production industrialisation.
