Maharashtra farmers have received major relief under the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karjmukti Yojana, with the state government releasing the second installment of agricultural loan waivers. Under this installment, ₹5,086 crore has been transferred as loan waiver benefits to 6,36,036 eligible farmers across the state.
The funds were distributed online during a recent event in Mumbai in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. With this latest installment, the total number of farmers who have benefited under the scheme has reached 12,58,243, while the cumulative loan waiver amount has risen to ₹10,115 crore.
The Maharashtra government has allocated more than ₹36,000 crore for the overall loan waiver scheme, and the benefits will continue to be provided to eligible farmers in phases.
The Maharashtra government approved the agricultural loan waiver scheme in early June this year to reduce the debt burden on farmers and provide financial relief to eligible beneficiaries.
At the time of approval, the government estimated that more than 56 lakh farmers could potentially benefit from the scheme. The process of identifying beneficiaries and releasing loan waiver benefits is currently underway, with the government periodically updating beneficiary details and the number of farmers covered.
The scheme is aimed at helping eligible farmers reduce their outstanding agricultural debt and improve their financial position.
Aadhaar authentication is an important part of the process used to identify eligible beneficiaries and ensure transparent distribution of loan waiver benefits.
According to the state government, Aadhaar authentication has been completed for around 13.70 lakh loan accounts so far. The government says this process is helping improve the accuracy of beneficiary identification and making the distribution system more transparent.
The loan waiver process is being monitored at the Chief Minister's level. Farmers whose Aadhaar authentication and other required procedures have been completed are receiving benefits in phases.
The second installment of the loan waiver has covered farmers across all six major revenue divisions of Maharashtra. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division received the highest benefit in terms of both the number of farmers covered and the total loan waiver amount.
Here is the division-wise distribution of the second installment:
Revenue Division | Farmers Benefited | Loan Waiver Amount |
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar | 3,02,273 | ₹2,284 crore |
Amravati | 1,45,808 | ₹1,208 crore |
Nashik | 84,813 | ₹756 crore |
Pune | 49,224 | ₹417 crore |
Nagpur | 44,864 | ₹366 crore |
Konkan | 9,054 | ₹54 crore |
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar accounted for the largest share, with agricultural loans worth ₹2,284 crore waived for 3,02,273 farmers.
Amravati division followed with 1,45,808 farmers receiving loan waiver benefits worth ₹1,208 crore. In Nashik division, loans worth ₹756 crore were waived for 84,813 farmers.
The second installment also provided relief to 49,224 farmers in Pune division, where loan waiver benefits totaled ₹417 crore. In Nagpur division, 44,864 farmers received benefits worth ₹366 crore, while 9,054 eligible farmers in Konkan division received loan waivers totaling ₹54 crore.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that after the release of the second installment, 12,58,243 farmers have received loan waiver benefits under the scheme.
The total value of agricultural loans waived so far stands at ₹10,115 crore. Since the government has made a provision of more than ₹36,000 crore for the overall scheme, the process of providing benefits to the remaining eligible farmers is expected to continue in future phases.
Farmers who have completed the required verification process but have not yet received benefits may continue to monitor their status as the government updates the beneficiary list and processes additional cases.
Farmers who have applied for the scheme or believe they meet the eligibility criteria can check their beneficiary and loan waiver status through the relevant official Maharashtra government agriculture or cooperative department websites and portals.
They can also contact their respective bank to confirm whether the loan waiver benefit has been credited or adjusted against their agricultural loan account.
While checking their status, farmers should keep the following information ready:
Aadhaar number
Bank account details
Agricultural loan account information
Farmers should use only official government portals or their authorised bank channels for checking their details. Sensitive banking information should never be shared with unauthorised persons or unknown websites.
The Maharashtra government's loan waiver scheme has provided additional financial relief to farmers who are also waiting for the 24th installment of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi Yojana.
While PM-KISAN provides direct financial assistance to eligible farmers, the Maharashtra loan waiver scheme is focused on reducing the burden of agricultural debt. Together, these forms of support can help eligible farmers manage their financial requirements and reduce pressure from outstanding farm loans.
Farmers who have not yet received benefits under the Maharashtra loan waiver scheme should continue checking their Aadhaar authentication status, beneficiary details and agricultural loan account information. As the state government continues the scheme in phases, more eligible farmers are expected to receive benefits.
