CMVR Type Approval received from ARAI.
12M 51+D AC SDX electric bus certified.
Eligible for commercial deployment in India.
Designed for urban and intercity transport.
Focus on advanced drivetrains and fleet efficiency.
JSW Greentech has received the CMVR Type Approval Certificate from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for its “JSW 12M 51+D AC SDX” electric bus. This important regulatory milestone brings the company closer to the commercial rollout of its first electric bus in India.
The company is likely to manufacture the new 12-metre electric bus at its Aurangabad facility, strengthening its entry into the electric commercial vehicle segment.
The certification confirms that the JSW 12M electric bus complies with the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR) and meets all required safety, performance, and regulatory standards for Indian roads.
Type approval from ARAI is mandatory for homologation and commercial sale of vehicles in India. It covers key aspects such as:
Structural safety
Braking performance
Electrical systems
Overall regulatory compliance
With this approval, the electric bus is now officially cleared for commercial deployment.
The JSW 12M 51+D AC SDX is a full-size, air-conditioned electric bus built for both urban and intercity operations.
The “51+D” configuration refers to its seating layout, designed to meet mass transit requirements. This makes it suitable for:
State transport undertakings
Municipal corporations
Private fleet operators
High-capacity public transport routes
The model aims to offer a practical electric solution for operators looking to shift towards cleaner mobility options.
The approval comes at a time when India’s electric bus segment is expanding steadily. Growth is being driven by:
State-led procurement programmes
Urban emission reduction targets
Demand for cleaner public transport
Policy incentives and viability gap funding
Industry estimates show that electric bus tenders from state transport corporations and municipal bodies have increased in recent years, supporting faster adoption across cities.
JSW Greentech stated that this certification is a major step in its broader strategy to strengthen its presence in sustainable commercial mobility.
The company is focusing on:
Advanced electric drivetrains
High-performance battery systems
Integrated vehicle telematics
These features are aimed at improving uptime, reducing the total cost of ownership, and enhancing fleet-level operational efficiency.
With CMVR Type Approval now secured, the JSW 12M electric bus is eligible for commercial rollout, subject to order pipelines and state-level procurement processes.
JSW Greentech has indicated that it will continue expanding its electric commercial vehicle portfolio, including buses and trucks, in line with evolving regulations and rising market demand.
This approval marks a significant step forward as the company moves closer to large-scale deployment in India’s fast-growing electric mobility space.
