JK Tyre & Industries has become the country's first tyre manufacturer to receive the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus for its Chennai factory.

To get ISCC Plus certification, various requirements must be fulfilled, including raw material traceability, adherence to environmental rules, ecosystem preservation, labor and human rights protection, and promotion of sustainable economic development.

The final audit was conducted by the Indian counterpart of the certification body based in Kolkata.

The JK Tyre Chennai plant was recognized as a zero-liquid discharge facility in 2021 and received the title of "National Energy Leader" at the 21st National Award for Excellence in Energy Management in 2020.

The International Research Institute for Production (IRIM) recognized it in 2017 for its green production processes and commitment to sustainability. In addition, from 2015, the plant has achieved the CII's "Excellent Energy Efficient Unit" distinction six years in a row.

The ISCC Plus (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) is a voluntary certification program for bio-based and circular (recycled) raw materials. The certification is issued after a thorough verification procedure that ensures conformity with ISCC requirements, including the traceability of certified materials along the whole supply chain, from origin to completed product.

Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of JK Tyre, explained that their focus on green manufacturing reflects their dedication to sustainable development. Over the years, JK Tyre has been a leader in reducing their carbon footprint and using resources wisely, setting benchmarks in the industry. He sees the recent recognition as a major achievement for JK Tyre, inspiring them to continue their sustainable efforts.

JK Tyre has set ambitious goals for the future: they aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and plan to cut their carbon intensity by 50% by 2030. These commitments have been endorsed by the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), validating JK Tyre's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across their operations.
