Hitachi ZX890LC-7H Launched: 510 HP Heavy-Duty Excavator Built for Mining and Bulk Excavation

Key Highlights

  • Hitachi unveiled the ZX890LC-7H at ConExpo 2026.

  • Powered by a 510 HP Isuzu 6WG1 diesel engine.

  • Features a large 10.4-cubic-yard AMI Xmor bucket.

  • DPF-free SCR and DOC aftertreatment system reduces maintenance.

  • Designed for mining, quarrying, bulk excavation, and truck loading.

Hitachi Construction Machinery has unveiled its new Hitachi ZX890LC-7H Bulk Excavation Configuration excavator at the prestigious ConExpo 2026 event. Designed for demanding applications such as mining, quarrying, bulk excavation, mass earthmoving, and truck loading, this 85-metric-ton machine combines high power, faster cycle times, and advanced hydraulic precision.

The new excavator is aimed at contractors and mining operators who need a machine capable of moving large volumes of material efficiently while maintaining precise control in challenging working conditions.

Powerful 510 HP Engine for Heavy-Duty Operations

The Hitachi ZX890LC-7H is powered by the reliable Isuzu 6WG1 diesel engine, which delivers a net rated output of 510 HP and generates an impressive 1,431 lb-ft of torque. This high-performance powertrain allows the excavator to handle demanding excavation and rock-removal tasks with ease.

To reduce maintenance requirements, Hitachi has equipped the machine with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) aftertreatment system. Unlike many modern heavy machines, the ZX890LC-7H does not require a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), eliminating the need for DPF cleaning, regeneration, and related maintenance expenses.

Short Boom and Arm Design Improves Productivity

Recognizing the importance of faster loading cycles in mining and quarrying operations, Hitachi has developed the ZX890LC-7H with a shorter and heavily reinforced boom and arm configuration.

The machine features:

  • Bulk Excavation Boom Length: 23 ft 4 in

  • Bulk Excavation Arm Length: 9 ft 8 in

According to Julie Fuller, Product Management Director at Hitachi Construction Machinery America, the configuration is specifically engineered to move large quantities of material in the shortest possible time. The reinforced boom and arm structure provide exceptional durability, while compatibility with a large 10.4-cubic-yard AMI Xmor bucket helps reduce loading times and improve overall productivity.

Advanced HIOS V Hydraulic System Enhances Precision

The ZX890LC-7H is equipped with Hitachi’s latest HIOS V hydraulic technology, delivering smooth and responsive multifunction operation. This system allows operators to perform multiple movements simultaneously with greater accuracy and efficiency.

The excavator offers three working modes:

  • ECO Mode for fuel-efficient operation

  • PWR Mode for balanced performance

  • HP Mode for maximum productivity

Additional fuel-saving features such as auto-idle and auto-shutdown controls help reduce fuel consumption during idle periods. Operators can also store settings for up to 16 different attachments, enabling quick switching between tasks.

Operator-Focused Cabin with Advanced Safety Features

Hitachi has designed the cabin to provide a comfortable and productive working environment for long operating hours.

Key cabin features include:

270-Degree Aerial Angle Camera

The integrated camera system provides a 270-degree bird’s-eye view around the machine, improving operator awareness and job-site safety.

8-Inch LCD Display

A low-reflection color monitor allows easy access to machine settings, climate control, audio functions, and work mode selection.

Enhanced Connectivity

The cabin includes Bluetooth connectivity, a USB charging port, a smartphone holder, and ergonomically designed joysticks for improved convenience.

Improved Visibility

Wide wiper blades cover up to 96% of the front windshield area, ensuring clear visibility during rain, dust, and harsh working conditions.

Why the ZX890LC-7H Could Be Valuable for Indian Operators

The ZX890LC-7H offers several advantages that could make it attractive for Indian mining and infrastructure projects.

No DPF Maintenance

The absence of a Diesel Particulate Filter can reduce downtime and maintenance costs, particularly in remote project locations where servicing may be less accessible.

Reinforced Heavy-Duty Structure

The machine comes with a strengthened boom, arm, and counterweight designed to withstand harsh operating conditions commonly found in mines, quarries, and large infrastructure projects.

High Breakout Force

Its bucket breakout force of 89,699 lbf enables efficient handling of hard rock and compacted material, improving productivity in demanding excavation tasks.

India Launch Timeline Yet to Be Confirmed

Although Hitachi showcased the ZX890LC-7H at ConExpo 2026, the company has not yet announced an official launch timeline for the Indian market. Interested mining contractors, quarry operators, and infrastructure developers are advised to contact authorized Hitachi dealerships for future availability updates.
