Key Highlights:
Exponent Energy has introduced India’s first 1MW fast charging technology for electric buses. The company also plans to launch a 1.5MW charging system for EVs later this year. This comes after BYD recently introduced a similar 1MW charging technology for cars in China.
Exponent Energy has developed a complete charging system. It includes the e^pack battery, e^pump charging station, and e^plug connector. This system allows EVs to charge in just 15 minutes and provides a 3000-cycle battery life using affordable lithium-ion cells.
Exponent Energy has grown its operations across India, with over 1,700 EVs using its technology. These vehicles have completed more than 3.5 lakh fast charging sessions and covered over 20 lakh kilometers. In the last two years, the company has expanded to Delhi NCR, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Hyderabad.
In August 2024, Exponent Energy partnered with Veera Vahana to launch the Veera Mahasamrat EV. The Veera Mahasamrat EV is an intercity electric bus with fast charging features. To support this, the company introduced its 1MW charging technology to reduce charging time and improve efficiency for commercial EVs.
Exponent Energy has raised $44.6 million through multiple funding rounds. Investors include Lightspeed, Eight Roads Ventures, YourNest VC, 3one4 Capital, AdvantEdge VC, and the family office of Dr. Pawan Munjal, Chairman and CEO of Hero MotoCorp.
About Exponent Energy
Exponent Energy is a full-stack energy company that designs chargers, batteries, and everything needed for 15-minute rapid charging of EVs. Founded in 2020 by former Ather Energy executives Arun Vinayak and Sanjay Balyal, the company has become a leader in EV charging technology. The exponent’s energy stack includes the e^pack battery, e^pump charging station, and e^plug connector, which together enable a full 0%-100% charge in just 15 minutes and a 3000-cycle battery life using regular LFP cells.
The company partners with OEMs to integrate its e^pack into EVs for rapid charging and sets up e^pump networks for logistics companies. In the last 9 months, Exponent’s technology has been adopted by customers in India, with over 500 EVs covering 3 million kilometers and completing 60,000+ rapid charging sessions.
Exponent Energy’s offboard thermal management system makes rapid charging more cost-efficient by moving the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system from the vehicle to the charger. This reduces the vehicle’s weight and improves cost efficiency by allowing better cost amortization. By combining thermal management with advanced charging algorithms, Exponent delivers rapid charging without affecting the battery life, making the technology more affordable and efficient.

CMV360 Says
Exponent Energy’s fast charging technology is a major boost for India’s EV sector. Fast charging helps commercial vehicles stay on the road longer, making EVs more useful for businesses. With its expansion into major cities and strong investor backing, the company is set to drive the growth of electric mobility. This can reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower running costs for EV users.
