EKA Mobility has started deploying electric buses for the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) system in Odisha, strengthening the state’s move toward clean and sustainable public transport. Under this project, 100 EKA 9M electric buses will operate across the capital region, helping expand public transport services while reducing emissions.
The electric buses were virtually flagged off by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, highlighting the government’s continued focus on electric mobility and green urban transport. The deployment is being carried out in partnership with Travel Time Mobility Pvt. Ltd., which is responsible for managing the operational aspects of the fleet for CRUT.
The project includes a total of 100 electric buses that will serve multiple routes across the capital region. These buses will increase CRUT’s transport capacity and support the transition from conventional fuel-based buses to zero-emission electric vehicles, improving air quality and passenger comfort.
The EKA 9M is a 9-metre electric bus designed for urban operations. It offers seating for 35 passengers and includes wheelchair accessibility to support inclusive public transport. The bus is powered by a 213 kW electric motor and uses a 200 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, ensuring reliable performance and efficient energy use for daily city operations.
Rohit Srivastava, Business Head and Chief Growth Officer at EKA Mobility, said the deployment reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility in India. He highlighted that EKA’s electric buses aim to lower carbon emissions while offering a better and quieter travel experience for passengers.
Vivek Kalkar, Director at Travel Time Mobility Pvt. Ltd., stated that the project is a significant step toward establishing clean mobility infrastructure in Odisha. He added that the company is focused on ensuring smooth and efficient operations of the electric bus fleet for CRUT.
EKA Mobility operates under Pinnacle Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and has equity partnerships with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. of Japan and VDL Groep of the Netherlands. The company specializes in electric mobility solutions for commercial vehicles and manufactures electric buses for both urban and rural transport needs across India.
The Odisha deployment is part of EKA Mobility’s broader expansion of electric bus operations in several Indian states. Through such projects, the company is contributing to India’s national goal of promoting electric public transport systems and building a cleaner, more sustainable mobility ecosystem.

This initiative reflects Odisha’s commitment to sustainable transport, enhanced passenger experience, and alignment with India’s broader electric mobility transition.
