DICV will invest ₹4,000 crore in Tamil Nadu to expand BharatBenz manufacturing, R&D, localisation, technology and service capabilities while creating around 400 jobs.

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), the maker of BharatBenz trucks and buses, is set to make an additional investment of approximately ₹4,000 crore in Tamil Nadu. The investment will support BharatBenz’s manufacturing, product development, research and development (R&D), infrastructure and future technology readiness.
The announcement was made through a non-binding facilitation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Government of Tamil Nadu during the Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave.
The proposed investment is expected to strengthen BharatBenz’s capabilities across product development, manufacturing, R&D and infrastructure. It will also help the company improve localisation and service readiness as it prepares for the next phase of commercial vehicle growth in India.
With this investment, DICV’s cumulative investment in India is expected to cross ₹14,500 crore. The proposed investment is also expected to create around 400 jobs over the investment period.
Since BharatBenz entered the Indian market in 2012, more than 2.2 lakh trucks and buses from the brand have been put on Indian roads. These vehicles serve a wide range of applications, including freight transportation, construction, mining, logistics and passenger mobility.
DICV operates a 400-acre integrated manufacturing and R&D facility at Oragadam near Chennai, which currently employs more than 4,000 people.
The company has developed a strong local supplier ecosystem with more than 400 local suppliers. Around 92% of the value of BharatBenz products is localised through this Indian supplier network.
BharatBenz trucks are designed and manufactured for Indian operating conditions and cover applications such as long-haul transportation, regional distribution, construction, mining, tractor-trailers and specialised transport.
Its bus range caters to different passenger mobility requirements, including school, staff and intercity transportation.
Along with manufacturing and product development, DICV is also focusing on strengthening its service infrastructure and parts availability.
BharatBenz currently has more than 420 dealer and service touchpoints across India. The company has also recently launched a Parts Logistics Centre in Pune, aimed at improving parts availability and supporting dealer operations.
These initiatives are expected to improve service readiness and reduce downtime for BharatBenz customers across the country.
DICV is not only focused on the Indian market but also serves as an important manufacturing, sourcing and engineering base within Daimler Truck’s global operations.
The company has exported more than 75,000 trucks and buses and over 330 million parts to more than 70 markets worldwide.
Its Chennai operations also manufacture transmissions that are supplied to Daimler Truck plants in Germany, highlighting India's growing role in the company's global supply chain.
Torsten Schmidt, Managing Director and CEO of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, said the investment reflects the company's confidence in India's next phase of commercial vehicle growth.
He said BharatBenz was built for India and that the new investment will focus on strengthening products, localisation, service readiness and parts availability. At the same time, DICV plans to maintain India's position as an important manufacturing and supply base within Daimler Truck's global network.
