Tata Motors and Cummins have been working together in India for 30 years through their joint venture Tata Cummins (TCPL), which was formed in 1993. This definitive agreement builds on the Memorandum of Understanding agreed between the two organizations in November 2022 to collaborate on the development of low- and zero-emissions propulsion technology solutions for commercial vehicles in India.
As part of this arrangement, Cummins and Tata Motors established TCPL Green Energy Solutions (GES), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the existing joint venture focused on the development and manufacturing of sustainable technology solutions. These products will be sold under the Accelera TM by Cummins brand. It will include hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines, fuel delivery systems, battery electric powertrains, and fuel cell electric systems.
TCPL GES technologies will be used in on-highway and off-highway applications for both domestic and international markets. According to the press release, this cooperation will be critical in creating sustainable powertrain solutions.
"In India, Tata Motors is at the forefront of the global megatrend of green, smart, and safe mobility. He went on to say that they will collaborate to develop and indigenize smart and green powertrain technology in order to produce India-specific sustainable mobility solutions," stated Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors.
The goal of Tata Motors for commercial vehicles is to reach net zero emissions by 2045.
Rumsey stated, "I am delighted that we are embarking on this decarbonisation journey with our trusted partner of 30 years - Tata Motors. We will work together to advance low- and zero-emissions technology that benefits our consumers, communities, and the environment. She claims that by doing so, the partners will also open up new prospects for innovation for its employees all over the world."
