Continental has won the 'Tire Manufacturer of the Year' title for the fourth time.

Key Highlights:

  • Continental won 'Tire Manufacturer of the Year'.
  • The company also received the 'Environmental Achievement of the Year – Manufacturing' award.
  • This marks the fourth time Continental has won the title.
  • The jury recognized Continental's sustainability projects.
  • The Tire Technology International Awards have been held annually since 2008.

Continental has won 'Tire Manufacturer of the Year' at Tire Technology International Awards 2025. The company also received recognition for its tyre plant in Lousado, Portugal, which has been producing tyres with zero CO2 emissions since last year. This makes Continental the only tyre manufacturer to win two prestigious awards: 'Tyre Manufacturer of the Year' and 'Environmental Achievement of the Year – Manufacturing.' The awards were presented at the Tire Technology Expo in Hanover, one of the most respected events in the industry.

Fourth Time Winning 'Tire Manufacturer of the Year'

Continental has won the 'Tire Manufacturer of the Year' title for the fourth time. The competition was tough, with contenders from the USA, Italy, and France. This win follows their previous victory in 2022. As sustainability becomes more important in the industry, the 27 independent experts who judged the awards recognized Continental's continuous efforts towards greater sustainability in 2024.

The jury considered several of Continental's sustainability projects when awarding the title. These included using more sustainable materials, such as recycled PET bottles, at various plants, and expanding the plant in Rayong, Thailand, to meet the highest energy-efficiency standards. They also looked at Continental’s achievement of obtaining the ISCC-PLUS sustainability certification for its plants in Lousado, Portugal, Puchóv, Slovakia, and Hefei, China. Additionally, the upgrade of the Hefei tyre plant with automation technology aligned with modern sustainability standards was another key factor.

Continental has consistently impressed the jury in categories that recognize eco-friendly development and production. In 2024, the company won the 'Environmental Achievement of the Year – Tire Design' award for its sustainable production of the UltraContact NXT tyre.

This year, Continental won the 'Manufacturing' category for its sustainability efforts at the tyre plant in Lousado, Portugal. Since 2024, the plant has been testing a CO2-neutral production process, helping the company move closer to its goal of carbon neutrality. The plant uses a fully electric steam boiler, generating steam with both solar power produced on-site and renewable energy from the grid. This steam is essential for heating the rubber compound during the vulcanization process, which is main in tire production.

Tire Technology International Awards

The Tire Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence have been held since 2008, as part of the annual Tire Technology Expo in Hanover. The awards cover 13 categories, recognizing the latest innovations in tyre technology and significant progress toward a more sustainable tyre industry.
