The Government of Andhra Pradesh and Cargo Matters have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop an integrated electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and charging hub. The project will be located in Madanapalle and aims to accelerate the electrification of heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) in India. The total investment for the project is Rs 100 crore.
Cargo Matters has submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) for the allocation of eighteen acres of industrial land. The facility will include a manufacturing block for chargers, a specialized retrofit facility for heavy vehicles, and a research and development (R&D) unit for validation and certification. The initiative supports the Andhra Pradesh EV Policy 2024-2029, which seeks to make the state a global center for high-value EV production.
The project is expected to create significant employment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh. It will generate approximately 1,000 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect jobs. The plant will focus on providing advanced retrofitting services and dedicated heavy-duty charging networks for fleet owners.
Of the total Rs 100 crore investment, Rs 50 crore is allocated specifically for developing charging infrastructure to support regional heavy-duty electric corridors. The project aims for quick implementation, with pilot operations expected to begin within 12 to 18 months of approval. Full commercial commissioning is targeted within 24 months.
Madanapalle, the site of the new facility, is strategically located near the borders of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Bengaluru is about 100 km away, and Chennai is approximately 250 km from the site. This location offers strong connectivity for logistics operations and supports the state's vision of a green logistics ecosystem.
P.N. Mahesh, Director of APIIC, emphasized that the project aligns with the Andhra Pradesh Sustainable Electric Mobility Policy 4.0 (2024–2029) and will provide meaningful job opportunities for the region’s youth.
