Bihar is set to host a significant event, the 'Bihar Electric Vehicle Conclave and Expo', emphasizing electric vehicles (EVs) and charging infrastructure. This initiative, jointly organized by the transport department, Bihar State Pollution Control Board, and WRI India, aims to raise awareness and promote electric mobility in the state, aligning with the Bihar Electric Vehicle Policy, 2023.
Prominent personalities will be participating in the event, including the state's transport minister, Sheela Kumari, and senior officials from the central government, such as Vishal Kapoor, CEO of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and Sudhendu Jyoti Sinha, advisor at NITI Aayog.
Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal highlighted the event's opportunity to educate on EV technology, environment-friendly transportation, and the shift toward electric mobility. He emphasized the necessity of this transition in the face of fuel depletion, escalating fuel costs, and environmental degradation.
Abhay Jha, the administrator of Bihar State Road Transport Corporation Limited (BRTC), shared plans for ten leading EV manufacturers to exhibit buses, four-wheelers, and two-wheelers at the expo. These displays aim to provide firsthand information about electric mobility and charging amenities.
The department is gearing up to launch 400 e-buses as part of the electric bus promotion initiative, expanding its current fleet of 25. This expansion intends to mitigate air and noise pollution in various districts across Bihar.Anurag Jain, the road transport secretary, faced speed violation challans due to misplaced speed limit signs in Delhi. He emphasized the importance of proper sign placement for driver visibility and cited a 2017 study highlighting the need for more than 70% of road signage in Delhi.
This event seeks to propel Bihar toward sustainable transportation solutions, encouraging EV adoption and fostering eco-friendly mobility initiatives.
