Bihar Farmers Get Big Boost: ₹246 Crore Approved, Up to 80% Subsidy on Farm Equipment

Key Highlights

  • ₹246 crore approved for agricultural mechanization in Bihar.

  • Farmers to receive 40% to 80% subsidy on modern farm equipment.

  • 480 farmers will get drones for crop monitoring and spraying.

  • Makhana Board to be formed and ₹476 crore special scheme approved.

  • Over ₹65 crore sanctioned to promote organic and natural farming.

In a major relief for farmers in Bihar, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced several important initiatives under the "Khet Bachao Abhiyan" (Save Farms Campaign) in Naubatpur. The announcements aim to modernize agriculture, increase farmers income, promote mechanization, and encourage organic farming across the state.

The event was attended by Bihar Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha along with farmers and agricultural stakeholders.

₹246 Crore Approved for Agricultural Mechanization

To promote modern farming and reduce production costs, the Central Government has approved ₹246 crore for agricultural mechanization in Bihar. The funds will be used to create infrastructure and improve access to modern farming technologies.

Under this initiative:

  • 267 Farm Machinery Banks will be established.

  • 480 farmers will receive agricultural drones for crop monitoring and spraying.

  • 200 Custom Hiring Centres (CHCs) will be set up to support stubble and crop residue management.

The government has also announced a subsidy ranging from 40% to 80% on modern agricultural equipment. This will make advanced farm machinery more affordable, especially for small and marginal farmers.

Bihar's Makhana, Litchi and Mushroom Farmers to Get Global Opportunities

While addressing the gathering, Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted Bihar's strong position in agricultural production. He said the state has emerged as a leading producer of litchi, makhana, and mushrooms in India.

To help farmers access international markets and earn better returns, the government has taken two major decisions:

Makhana Board to Be Formed

A dedicated Makhana Board will be established to provide better marketing support, organized trade channels, and improved prices for makhana growers.

₹476 Crore Special Makhana Scheme

A special scheme worth ₹476 crore will be implemented to promote makhana cultivation, processing, value addition, and exports. The initiative is expected to create new income opportunities for farmers and strengthen Bihar's position in global markets.

Major Expansion of Storage and Processing Infrastructure

To reduce post-harvest losses and help farmers get better prices for their produce, the government will strengthen rural agricultural infrastructure across Bihar.

The planned facilities include:

  • 304 Storage Warehouses

  • 800 Pucca Threshing Floors

  • 11 Dal Mill Units

  • 102 Oil Processing Units

  • 204 Cold Press Oil Units

These facilities will improve storage capacity, support value addition, and reduce wastage of agricultural produce.

Special Focus on Organic and Natural Farming

The Union Minister emphasized that reducing chemical pollution in agriculture is a key priority under the "Save Farms - Enhance Lives" campaign. To support sustainable farming practices, schemes worth more than ₹65 crore have been approved.

The initiative will focus on:

  • Promoting organic and natural farming

  • Improving soil health and fertility

  • Reducing farmers' cultivation costs

  • Strengthening environmental sustainability and ecological balance

A Big Step Towards Modern and Self-Reliant Agriculture

The newly announced schemes are expected to transform Bihar's agricultural sector by combining mechanization, infrastructure development, value-added processing, and sustainable farming practices. With higher subsidies, improved storage facilities, drone technology, global market access, and support for organic farming, farmers are likely to benefit from increased productivity, lower costs, and better income opportunities in the coming years.
