Centre approves MSP procurement of moong, urad and groundnut in UP, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Haryana, ensuring better prices and higher income for farmers.

MSP procurement approved for moong, urad, and groundnut in 4 states.
Uttar Pradesh gets the biggest benefit with procurement worth over ₹1,490 crore.
Gujarat approved 18,250 metric tonnes of moong procurement.
Tamil Nadu's moong procurement limit increased from 885 MT to 990 MT.
Haryana approved for procurement of 2,115 MT of moong worth over ₹18 crore.
In a major relief for pulse and oilseed farmers, the Central Government has approved the procurement of moong (green gram), urad (black gram), and groundnut under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Haryana. The decision was taken by Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to ensure that farmers receive fair prices for their produce through the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system.
This move is expected to protect farmers from low market prices, improve their income, and encourage the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds across the country.
According to the Agriculture Ministry, the approval has been granted to ensure that farmers receive remunerative prices for their crops and to strengthen pulse and oilseed production. Under the Price Support Scheme, government agencies will procure the approved crops directly from farmers at MSP, reducing the risk of distress sales in the open market.
The decision is expected to benefit lakhs of farmers in the four states by providing them with a guaranteed price for their produce.
Among all the states, Uttar Pradesh is set to gain the most from the latest approval. For the Summer 2026 season, the government has approved procurement of:
48,298 metric tonnes of moong
97,970 metric tonnes of urad
41,718 metric tonnes of groundnut
The combined MSP value of these crops is estimated to be more than ₹1,490 crore.
Experts believe this procurement will provide significant financial support to pulse and oilseed growers in the state. Farmers will be able to sell their produce at the government-fixed MSP instead of accepting lower prices in local markets.
Farmers in Gujarat will also benefit from the Centre's decision. The government has approved the procurement of 18,250 metric tonnes of moong during the Summer 2026 season.
The total MSP value of this procurement is expected to exceed ₹160 crore. Gujarat is one of India's leading pulse-producing states, and the decision is expected to help moong growers secure better returns and improve income stability.
The Central Government has also provided relief to moong farmers in Tamil Nadu by increasing the procurement limit for the 2025-26 Rabi Marketing Season.
The procurement limit has been raised from 885 metric tonnes to 990 metric tonnes, an increase of 105 metric tonnes. This additional procurement is expected to generate nearly ₹8.68 crore in extra benefits for farmers.
The government believes that increasing the procurement limit will allow more farmers to take advantage of MSP and receive better prices for their produce.
Farmers in Haryana will also receive support under the Price Support Scheme. The government has approved the procurement of 2,115 metric tonnes of moong for the Summer 2026 season.
The total MSP value of this procurement is estimated to be more than ₹18 crore. The move is expected to encourage pulse cultivation in the state while providing farmers with a reliable market and assured prices for their produce.
Agriculture experts have welcomed the government's decision, stating that MSP procurement helps protect farmers from fluctuations in market prices. It also encourages the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds, which are important for improving domestic production.
Experts believe that stronger MSP procurement can:
Protect farmers from low market rates
Increase pulse and oilseed production
Improve farmers' income
Reduce dependence on imports
Strengthen the agricultural sector
Farmers who wish to sell their produce at MSP should stay informed about procurement schedules, registration procedures, and designated procurement centres in their state.
They are advised to contact their local agriculture department or the concerned procurement agency to get details about registration requirements, necessary documents, and procurement timelines. Timely registration and proper documentation will help farmers receive the full benefits of the scheme.

The Central Government's approval for MSP procurement of moong, urad, and groundnut in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Haryana is expected to provide major financial support to farmers. With procurement worth thousands of crores and increased procurement limits in some states, the decision will help ensure fair prices, improve farm income, and encourage higher production of pulses and oilseeds across the country.
