Farmers in Bihar now have more time to take advantage of the PM-KUSUM Yojana. The state government has extended the last date to apply for solar pump plant installation till 23 April 2025. This is a golden opportunity for farmers to set up solar power plants and receive a total subsidy of up to Rs 1.50 crore per megawatt.

What is the PM-KUSUM Yojana?
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Maha Abhiyan (PM-KUSUM Yojana) is a central government scheme, being implemented in Bihar by Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited. Under this scheme, around 3188 agricultural and mixed feeders connected to 962 power substations will be linked to solar power.
The goal is to help farmers get a reliable power supply for irrigation and also allow them to earn money by selling surplus electricity to the government.
How Much Subsidy Will Farmers Get?
Farmers will receive two types of subsidies under this scheme:
Rs 1.05 crore per megawatt from the central government
Rs 45 lakh per megawatt from the Bihar government
In total, the subsidy amount will be Rs 1.50 crore per megawatt, depending on the capacity of the agricultural feeder and solar plant.

How Much Do Farmers Need to Invest?
To apply for setting up a 1 MW solar power plant, here are the charges farmers need to pay:
Tender Fee: Rs 590
Tender Processing Fee: Rs 11,800
Advance (Refundable): Rs 1,00,000 per MW (via bank guarantee or demand draft)
Land Requirement for 1 MW Solar Plant
To install a 1 megawatt solar pump plant, the farmer will need around 4 acres of land. The plant will be connected to the nearest 11 KV substation. Once the project is completed within 1 year, South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited will purchase electricity from the farmer for the next 25 years.

Farmers must keep the following documents ready for applying:
PAN card
Mobile number
Email ID and Class-III Digital Signature
Bank guarantee or a demand draft of the required amount

Farmers in Bihar can apply online through the e-procurement portal of the Government of Bihar. All applications must be submitted by 23 April 2025.
