BEML BH60-EV: India’s First Indigenous 60-Ton Electric Dump Truck Unveiled

Key Highlights

  • BEML unveils the indigenous BH60-EV 60-ton electric dump truck.

  • It offers a 54,500 kg payload with a 36.4 cubic metre body.

  • A 1,000 kWh battery powers the heavy-duty electric truck.

  • Operating costs can be 40-60% lower than diesel equipment.

  • Each vehicle can reduce around 130 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

BEML Limited has unveiled the BH60-EV, India’s first indigenously designed and developed 60-ton electric dump truck, at its Mysuru Complex. The new electric mining truck was unveiled on September 30, 2026, marking another major step in BEML’s efforts to develop electric mobility solutions for the mining and infrastructure sectors.

The BH60-EV combines a high payload capacity with an advanced electric powertrain and zero tailpipe emissions during operation. It has been developed to handle demanding mining and infrastructure applications while focusing on energy efficiency, productivity, safety and operator comfort.

The electric dump truck was virtually launched by Shri Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML Limited, in the presence of functional directors, senior officers and employees. The launch underlines BEML’s focus on developing high-capacity electric equipment for heavy-duty applications.

BEML BH60-EV Gets 54,500 Kg Payload Capacity

The BEML BH60-EV is designed for applications where high material carrying capacity is essential. When equipped with a rock body, the electric dump truck offers a 54,500 kg payload capacity. It also gets a 36.4 cubic metre volumetric body capacity, allowing it to transport large quantities of material in mining and infrastructure operations.

The truck has been engineered with high tractive effort and instant torque, which can help it operate efficiently on gradients and challenging work sites. Its electric platform is also designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce dependence on conventional fuel.

According to BEML, the BH60-EV can deliver 40-60% lower operating costs compared with conventional diesel-powered equipment, depending on operating conditions. The company also estimates that each vehicle can help reduce around 130 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

1,000 kWh Battery Powers the BH60-EV

At the heart of the BEML BH60-EV is a 1,000 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack. The battery supplies power to a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) integrated with a rugged gearbox.

The electric powertrain has been developed to provide the power and torque required for demanding heavy-duty mining operations. Instant torque delivery can support strong acceleration, high tractive effort and better performance on gradients.

BEML has also developed a complete charging station solution for the electric dump truck. The charging system is designed to work with existing site electrical infrastructure and can be scaled according to fleet requirements.

This integrated approach allows mining and infrastructure operators to plan the electric truck and charging infrastructure together based on their operational requirements.

Focus on Efficiency and Heavy-Duty Performance

The BH60-EV has been designed to reduce dependence on conventional fuel while improving energy efficiency. Its electric platform offers a high power-to-weight ratio, strong acceleration and gradeability, which are important for heavy-duty operations at mining and infrastructure sites.

The combination of instant torque, high tractive effort and a large battery pack is intended to support consistent performance in demanding operating conditions. At the same time, lower operating costs and zero tailpipe emissions can help operators move towards cleaner and more efficient mining operations.

Safety and Operator Comfort

BEML has also focused on operator safety and comfort while developing the BH60-EV. The electric dump truck gets a spacious and ergonomically designed cabin intended to support operators during long working hours.

The cabin incorporates a Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS) for enhanced protection. Other safety-related features include emergency steering and sealed oil-cooled disc brakes.

These features are designed to provide better control, reliability and protection in the demanding conditions typically associated with mining and heavy infrastructure operations.

Shantanu Roy Highlights BEML’s Electric Mobility Push

Speaking about the launch, Shri Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML Limited, said that the BH60-EV represents an important milestone in the company’s journey towards next-generation electric mobility for heavy industry.

He highlighted that the vehicle demonstrates BEML’s ability to develop high-capacity electric equipment suited to the demanding requirements of mining and infrastructure. The company is combining indigenous engineering, advanced battery technology and a focus on performance, safety and sustainability to develop solutions that can support industrial productivity while contributing to cleaner operations.

BH60-EV Expands BEML’s Electric Equipment Portfolio

The new 60-ton electric dump truck builds on BEML’s growing electric equipment portfolio. The company had earlier launched its 35-ton Electric Dump Truck on April 10, 2026.

With the BH60-EV, BEML is expanding its range of electric heavy-duty machinery and strengthening its capabilities in designing and manufacturing next-generation equipment for both Indian and global markets.

BEML operates across three major areas: Defence & Aerospace, Mining & Construction, and Rail & Metro. The development of the BH60-EV further strengthens its focus on electric solutions for heavy industry, particularly where high-capacity and lower-emission equipment can play an important role.
