There is big relief news for women in West Bengal as the state government has announced the launch of the Annapurna Yojana. Inspired by schemes like the Ladli Behna Yojana of Madhya Pradesh, this new scheme aims to provide direct financial support to women from economically weaker families.
After an important administrative meeting held in Kalyani, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that the distribution of application forms for the scheme has started from May 27. Under the Annapurna Yojana, eligible women will receive financial assistance of ₹3,000 every month directly into their bank accounts.
The West Bengal government said the main purpose of this scheme is to financially empower women and improve the economic condition of families. With regular monthly assistance, women will be able to manage household expenses more easily and move towards self-reliance.
The government believes this scheme will provide major support to needy women and help them live a more secure and dignified life.
Women applying for the scheme must fulfill certain eligibility conditions. According to the government, the applicant must:
Be an Indian citizen
Be a permanent resident of West Bengal
Be at least 18 years old
Belong to a family within the income limit fixed by the state government
Priority is likely to be given to:
Economically weaker women
Widows
Divorced or abandoned women
Unemployed women
Women from low-income families
