Key Highlights

  • Amazon to deploy 1,000 Eicher electric trucks by 2028.

  • Eicher Pro-X trucks are built for quick commerce operations.

  • Initial rollout starts in Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru and Mumbai.

  • Trucks offer 100-180 km range with 50-minute charging.

  • Amazon Now to expand across 100 Indian cities.

Amazon India has announced plans to deploy around 1,000 electric trucks developed in partnership with VE Commercial Vehicles to strengthen its quick commerce operations across India. The new fleet of electric trucks will support the company’s rapidly expanding Amazon Now delivery service.

The fleet will consist of specially developed Eicher Pro-X electric trucks built for high-frequency intra-city logistics operations. These electric trucks will mainly transport goods between Amazon’s large fulfilment centres located on city outskirts and smaller micro-fulfilment centres placed closer to customers for faster deliveries.

Amazon Begins Initial Deployment of Eicher Electric Trucks

Amazon India said it has already deployed nearly 50 Eicher Pro-X electric trucks and plans to increase the number to more than 1,000 units by 2028. The initial rollout will begin in major cities including Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru and Mumbai.

According to the company, these electric trucks are designed to operate on daily routes ranging between 100 km and 180 km. The vehicles also support multiple trips in a day with a fast-charging time of nearly 50 minutes, making them suitable for quick commerce and last-mile logistics operations.

Amazon Now Expansion Across India

The electric truck deployment comes as Amazon expands its ultra-fast delivery platform, Amazon Now, across the country. The company recently announced plans to expand the service to 100 cities in India while increasing its network to more than 1,000 micro-fulfilment centres.

The next phase of expansion will cover cities such as Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kochi, Mangalore and Visakhapatnam.

Amazon Expanding EV Fleet in India

Abhinav Singh, Vice President – Operations at Amazon India and Australia, said the company currently has more than 12,000 electric vehicles operating across India. He added that Amazon is continuously integrating electric mobility solutions into its logistics and transportation network.

Amazon also revealed that during 2025, it deployed more than 100 electric trucks with multiple OEM partners in cities including Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata as part of its transportation decarbonisation strategy.

Eicher Pro-X Electric Trucks Developed for E-Commerce Needs

VE Commercial Vehicles stated that the Eicher Pro-X electric trucks were jointly developed with Amazon specifically for e-commerce and quick commerce applications in India. The companies have been collaborating since 2022 to develop electric truck solutions suited for Indian logistics and delivery requirements.

With the growing demand for fast deliveries and sustainable transportation, Amazon’s large-scale deployment of electric trucks is expected to play a major role in reducing emissions while improving the efficiency of urban logistics operations in India.
