The Sugarcane Industry Department of Bihar has sent a strong message to sugar mills and officials over delays in sugarcane price payments. In a high-level review meeting held at Vikas Bhawan, Sugarcane Industry Minister Krishnanandan Paswan instructed officials to ensure full and timely payment to farmers. He warned that strict departmental action will be taken in case of negligence or delay.
There is good news for sugarcane farmers in Bihar. According to the department, 99.80% of the outstanding sugarcane payments for the current season have already been made by sugar mills. The remaining dues must be cleared immediately, and mill management has been given a final deadline. Minister Paswan emphasized that the interests of farmers are the top priority, and any lapse in payment will not be tolerated.
The Minister issued strict directives to complete sugarcane price payments and survey work within a set time frame. He urged officials and mill owners to avoid delays and act responsibly. The review meeting also discussed coordinated development of sugar mills, promotion of local development under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and the setting up of a tissue culture lab.
Minister Paswan encouraged sugar mills to actively contribute to local development under CSR initiatives. He noted that CSR can play a vital role in uplifting farming communities and improving infrastructure in sugarcane-growing areas.
Several key government schemes were reviewed in the meeting, including:
Mukhyamantri Ganna Vikas Yojana
Sugarcane Mechanization Yojana
Bihar Gur Protsahan Yojana
Instructions were given for faster and more effective implementation of these schemes to benefit farmers directly.
Sugarcane Industry Secretary Kartikeya Dhanji stressed the importance of adopting modern technologies and innovations in the sugarcane sector. He mentioned that tissue culture labs and advanced agro-industrial methods are essential to improve productivity. The Secretary added that many new incentive schemes will be introduced soon, which will support both sugarcane farmers and mill owners.
