Singh highlighted the impact of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, which provides Rs 6,000 annually to farmers through direct benefit transfer. He stressed that this support is a rightful return for farmers' efforts, not a free handout. Singh noted that direct transfers have improved transparency by eliminating intermediaries.
The Defence Minister also pointed to improvements in rural infrastructure. He mentioned that better roads, electricity, and irrigation have enhanced farming efficiency. Singh recalled that previously, poor road conditions limited truck access to villages, but connectivity has now improved significantly.
Singh emphasized the role of digital platforms in helping farmers access better markets. He said soil health cards and crop insurance schemes have reduced risks and increased agricultural output. These measures, he stated, contribute to the broader economic impact of agriculture in India.
The Unnat Krishi Mahotsav, held from April 11 to 13, featured over 300 stalls. The event showcased advancements in agriculture, horticulture, irrigation, mechanization, animal husbandry, and rural development. The exhibition included separate hangars for agricultural machinery, dairy and cooperative industries, and technical workshops.
Union Minister Chouhan inaugurated the event, highlighting the government's focus on innovative farming technologies and knowledge-sharing. The Mahotsav aimed to bridge the gap between research and field-level implementation, encouraging farmers to adopt sustainable and technology-driven practices.
Singh announced a new Defence Ministry program to procure fruits, vegetables, and foodgrains directly from farmers in cantonment areas. He said this initiative would deliver fresh organic produce to soldiers while increasing farmers' income.
Singh described himself as both Defence Minister and a farmer, expressing a personal connection to the agricultural community. He encouraged young people to learn about modern agriculture and recognized the sector's central role in India's economy.
Singh’s address underscored Madhya Pradesh’s progress as a model for agricultural development. With ongoing focus on farmer welfare, infrastructure, and technology, the state aims to strengthen its position in India’s agricultural growth while ensuring sustainable and inclusive development.
