GST on solar pumps has been reduced from 12% to 5%.
Farmers to save ₹4,209 to ₹7,811 on installation.
Up to 60% subsidy available for solar pump installation.
Additional ₹45,000 subsidy for SC/ST farmers.
Farmers need to deposit only 10% of the total cost.
The government has brought good news for farmers across India! Under the Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana (PM-KUSUM), farmers can now install solar-powered pumps in their fields at cheaper rates than before. This update aims to reduce irrigation costs, promote renewable energy, and make farmers self-reliant in power generation.
The PM Kusum Yojana is a joint initiative by the Central and State Governments to promote solar energy among farmers. Under this scheme, farmers receive a heavy subsidy to install solar pumps in their fields, allowing them to irrigate their land using solar power instead of expensive diesel or electricity.
The main goal of this scheme is to provide continuous, cost-effective, and eco-friendly irrigation facilities to farmers while reducing their dependence on traditional energy sources.
In 2025, the government announced a major relief for farmers; the GST rate on solar pump systems has been reduced from 12% to just 5%.
This tax reduction means direct savings of ₹4,209 to ₹7,811 for farmers installing solar pumps. With this move, solar pumps are now more affordable than ever before, encouraging more farmers to adopt solar energy for irrigation.
Farmers under the PM Kusum Yojana get substantial subsidies for installing solar pump plants. Here’s how it works:
60% subsidy on 3 HP, 5 HP, and 7.5 HP solar pumps in Rajasthan.
Additional subsidy up to ₹45,000 for SC/ST farmers.
Bank loan of up to 30% of the total cost.
Farmers only need to pay 10% of the total amount from their own pocket.
According to Subhash Sharma, Deputy Director of the Horticulture Department, Jhalawar, this GST reduction will reduce the financial burden on farmers, helping them complete solar pump installations faster and more affordably.
The installation of solar pump plants brings multiple long-term benefits for farmers:
No more waiting for electricity connections.
Daytime irrigation ensures higher crop yields.
Reduced dependency on diesel and electricity saves costs.
Promotes clean and sustainable energy.
Helps achieve the government’s goal of “Doubling Farmers’ Income.”
This move will empower millions of farmers to become energy-independent while also supporting the nation’s green energy goals.
Farmers in Rajasthan can apply for solar pumps through the Raj Kisan Portal – rajkisan.rajasthan.gov.in – or visit their nearest e-Mitra center.
Required Documents:
Jan Aadhaar Card
Certified copy of Jamabandi
Irrigation Source Certificate
Bank Account Details
Category Certificate (if applicable)
Farmers who have already applied are advised to deposit their share of the amount on time to avoid cancellation of their application, as delays may result in their priority being transferred to new applicants.
The PM Kusum Yojana is not just an irrigation support program — it is a transformative step toward energy independence and environmental sustainability.
With lower GST, increased subsidies, and easy financing options, farmers can now get solar pumps at much lower prices. This initiative promotes self-reliance, saves money, and supports clean, green farming practices.
Farmers seeking guidance can contact their nearest Horticulture Department office, Assistant Agriculture Officer, or Agriculture Supervisor (Horticulture) for help with applications and subsidy details.
The updated PM Kusum Yojana 2025 is a game-changing step toward sustainable agriculture. With cheaper solar pumps, higher subsidies, and easier application procedures, the scheme promises to empower farmers, reduce irrigation costs, and make Indian farming greener and more profitable.
