Major Rabi and Horticulture Crops Covered

Under this scheme, key Rabi crops such as wheat and mustard are included. Along with this, weather-based insurance will also cover horticulture crops like potato, brinjal (eggplant), citrus fruits, and mango. These crops will be protected from various weather-related damages during the season.

Premium Rates and Insurance Amount

According to Prabhudayal Sharma, Joint Director, Agriculture Department, the premium for Rabi crops has been kept low so more farmers can benefit.

  • Wheat

    • Sum insured per hectare: ₹96,172

    • Farmer’s premium: 1.5% = ₹1,443 per hectare

  • Mustard

    • Sum insured per hectare: ₹1,21,864

    • Farmer’s premium: 1.5% = ₹1,828 per hectare

The remaining premium amount will be shared equally (50:50) by the central and state governments.

Insurance Company and District-Wise Arrangement

In Rajasthan’s Dholpur district, the Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited (AIC) has been appointed to implement PMFBY. The company will manage:

  • Premium collection

  • Policy issuance

  • Claim settlement

  • Farmer support services

Farmers who have taken KCC (Kisan Credit Card) loans will be automatically insured by their bank. They do not need to apply separately.

If any farmer does not want to be part of the scheme, they must submit an opt-out application to their bank by December 24, 2025.

Last Dates for Sowing Updates

Farmers who have changed their sowing dates or crop type must inform the bank by December 29, 2025.

Farmers without a KCC can apply for insurance through:

  • National Crop Insurance Portal

  • Nearest bank branch

  • Call centre

  • Authorized representative

Documents required:

  • Khasra number

  • Latest Jamabandi copy

  • Self-declaration form

  • Bank passbook copy

Claim Process for Crop Loss

PMFBY provides compensation for damages caused by natural disasters. Farmers can file claims if crops are damaged by:

  • Cyclone

  • Hailstorm

  • Lightning

  • Unseasonal rain

If crops are damaged while drying in the field within 14 days after the notified harvest, farmers can also apply for individual claims.

Important:

Farmers must inform within 72 hours of crop damage.

Information can be given through:

  • Krishi Rakshak portal

  • Helpline: 14447

  • Crop Insurance App

  • Nearest bank

  • Agriculture officer

If sowing fails due to any natural cause, farmers will receive 25% of the insured amount as compensation.

How Yield and Compensation Will Be Determined

Yield assessment will be done at the revenue Patwar Mandal level. The final claim settlement will be based on Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) conducted by:

  • Rajasthan Ajmer Mandal

  • Economic & Statistics Department

This ensures transparent and scientific compensation distribution.

Agriculture Department’s Advice to Farmers

The Agriculture Department has urged farmers to insure their crops before the last date. The main aim of PMFBY is to protect farmers from climate-related risks, make agriculture financially secure, and ensure quick compensation during crop loss. Farmers are requested not to delay their applications to avoid financial loss.

CMV360 Says

The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is an important safety net for farmers during the Rabi season. With low premium rates, easy registration, and strong claim support, the scheme ensures timely financial protection against crop losses caused by unpredictable weather. Farmers in Rajasthan, especially those growing wheat and mustard, should complete their insurance before December 31, 2025, to safeguard their income and avoid losses due to natural disasters.
