The Agriculture Department has issued a new notification for the 2025–26 Rabi season under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) in Rajasthan. Farmers can insure their wheat, mustard, and several horticulture crops till December 31, 2025. The government has urged all farmers to complete their registration on time to protect their crops from possible natural risks.

Under this scheme, key Rabi crops such as wheat and mustard are included. Along with this, weather-based insurance will also cover horticulture crops like potato, brinjal (eggplant), citrus fruits, and mango. These crops will be protected from various weather-related damages during the season.
According to Prabhudayal Sharma, Joint Director, Agriculture Department, the premium for Rabi crops has been kept low so more farmers can benefit.
Wheat
Sum insured per hectare: ₹96,172
Farmer’s premium: 1.5% = ₹1,443 per hectare
Mustard
Sum insured per hectare: ₹1,21,864
Farmer’s premium: 1.5% = ₹1,828 per hectare
The remaining premium amount will be shared equally (50:50) by the central and state governments.
In Rajasthan’s Dholpur district, the Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited (AIC) has been appointed to implement PMFBY. The company will manage:

Policy issuance
Claim settlement
Farmer support services
Farmers who have taken KCC (Kisan Credit Card) loans will be automatically insured by their bank. They do not need to apply separately.
If any farmer does not want to be part of the scheme, they must submit an opt-out application to their bank by December 24, 2025.
Farmers who have changed their sowing dates or crop type must inform the bank by December 29, 2025.

PMFBY provides compensation for damages caused by natural disasters. Farmers can file claims if crops are damaged by:
Cyclone
Hailstorm
Lightning
Unseasonal rain
If crops are damaged while drying in the field within 14 days after the notified harvest, farmers can also apply for individual claims.
Farmers must inform within 72 hours of crop damage.

If sowing fails due to any natural cause, farmers will receive 25% of the insured amount as compensation.

The Agriculture Department has urged farmers to insure their crops before the last date. The main aim of PMFBY is to protect farmers from climate-related risks, make agriculture financially secure, and ensure quick compensation during crop loss. Farmers are requested not to delay their applications to avoid financial loss.
