MSP 2025-26: Maharashtra Extends Last Date for Paddy Sale Registration

Key Highlights

  • MSP registration deadline extended till December 31.

  • Applies to paddy, maize, sorghum, and ragi.

  • Online registration remains mandatory.

  • Decision approved by Minister Chhagan Bhujbal.

  • Major benefit for Vidarbha and Konkan farmers.

There is good news for paddy farmers in Maharashtra. The state government has extended the last date for online registration to sell paddy and other coarse grains under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme for the 2025-26 Kharif marketing season. Farmers can now complete their registration up to December 31, giving relief to those who missed the earlier deadline.

This decision will help left-out farmers sell their produce at MSP without facing losses in the open market.

Extension Applies to Paddy and Coarse Grains

As per a Government Resolution issued by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, the extension applies not only to paddy but also to coarse grains such as maize, sorghum (jowar), and ragi. Government procurement agencies will now accept registrations for these crops within the revised timeline.

The move is expected to benefit a large number of farmers who were unable to register earlier due to various challenges.

Why Was the Registration Date Extended?

The Maharashtra government took this decision after farmers reported several technical and practical issues during the registration process. These included:

  • Technical problems on the online portal.

  • Delays in obtaining the required documents.

  • Poor internet connectivity in rural areas.

  • Errors related to Aadhaar and land records.

Due to these difficulties, agencies such as the Maharashtra State Cooperative Marketing Federation, the Tribal Development Corporation, and district-level procurement bodies requested the government to extend the deadline. The request was later approved.

Minister Approves Extension in Farmers Interest

According to officials, Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Minister Chhagan Bhujbal approved the extension to protect farmers interests. The government believes this decision will directly benefit thousands of paddy and coarse-grain farmers across the state.

Online Registration Is Mandatory for MSP Sales

The government has clearly stated that online registration is compulsory to sell crops under the MSP scheme. Without registration, farmers will not be allowed to sell their produce to government procurement agencies.

Farmers are advised to complete the registration process within the revised deadline and upload all required documents to avoid issues during procurement.

MSP vs Market Price: Why Government Procurement Matters

Paddy farmers depend heavily on government procurement due to the large gap between MSP and market prices. Currently:

  • MSP for paddy is above ₹2,300 per quintal

  • Private traders offer around ₹1,800 per quintal

In addition, the Maharashtra government provides a bonus over MSP, making government procurement more profitable and secure for farmers.

How Can Farmers Register for MSP?

To sell paddy at MSP, farmers must register on the official online portal. During registration, they need to submit:

  • Crop details

  • Land ownership documents

  • Photographs of fields and standing crops

To prevent irregularities, the government sets a procurement limit based on the average yield for each region.

Paddy Cultivation Concentrated in Vidarbha and Konkan

Paddy farming in Maharashtra is mainly concentrated in the Vidarbha and Konkan regions. Major paddy-growing districts include Bhandara, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, and parts of Nagpur in Vidarbha, along with large areas in Konkan.

The extended deadline is expected to bring significant relief to farmers in these regions, allowing them to register smoothly and sell their produce at MSP without stress.

A Timely Relief for Farmers

Extending the MSP registration deadline has become a regular demand in Maharashtra due to on-ground challenges. Like previous years, farmer groups, public representatives, and procurement agencies raised concerns, leading to this extension.

Overall, this decision ensures that more farmers get a fair price for their crops and are not forced to sell at lower market rates.

CMV360 Says

The extension of the MSP registration deadline for paddy and coarse grains is a major relief for Maharashtra farmers. It allows those affected by technical issues, document delays, and connectivity problems to sell their produce at assured government prices. With a clear gap between MSP and market rates, this move protects farmer income and ensures wider participation in the 2025–26 Kharif procurement process.
