200% compensation on tower base.
30% payment for land under lines.
Compensation based on land type, area, and line capacity.
Direct DBT transfer for transparency.
Faster completion of transmission projects.
The Madhya Pradesh government has introduced new compensation guidelines to solve a long-standing issue faced by farmers. High-tension transmission lines and towers often pass through agricultural land, reducing farm productivity, lowering land value, and affecting crop patterns. Till now, farmers felt the compensation offered was too low. To address these concerns, the state has now increased compensation up to 200% for tower base areas, ensuring a fair and realistic return.
The government said that expanding high-tension lines is essential to improve electricity access and strengthen the transmission network. However, farmers were not adequately compensated for land loss. As per the new rules, the land used permanently for towers will now receive double the earlier payment. This includes the tower base and an additional 1-meter radius area affected by construction and technical work.
Farming under high-tension lines is restricted, and farmers cannot grow tall crops or use heavy machinery freely. To cover these limitations, the new guidelines also offer 30% compensation for the land area under the conductor (line). This amount will be paid on a per-meter basis and will help farmers manage the loss of crop potential and farming flexibility.
The new guidelines specify that compensation will be calculated using multiple factors, including:
Transmission line capacity (132 kV, 220 kV, 400 kV or above)
Collector’s guideline rate
Type of land (agricultural or non-agricultural)
Exact area affected
Length and height of the line
Estimated impact on crop production
After the calculation, the final payment will be transferred directly to farmers bank accounts through DBT, ensuring transparency and a completely hassle-free process.
Farmers across the state have expressed relief and satisfaction. Earlier, tower installation created fear of permanent land damage, reduced farm layout flexibility, and lowered land value. With 200% compensation, farmers say their losses and farm repair costs will now be comfortably managed. Many believe the government has finally acknowledged its real challenges.
Experts mention that this policy will not only benefit farmers but also speed up stalled power transmission projects. Disputes over compensation often delayed construction and created tension between farmers and project teams. With fair payment assured, cooperation will increase, land issues will reduce, and rural electricity supply will improve significantly.
The new compensation guidelines balance agricultural needs with infrastructure development. Farmers will now receive fair compensation for land use, while the government can smoothly advance its power expansion plans. This decision marks an important step in protecting farmer interests while supporting long-term rural growth.

The Madhya Pradesh government’s new high-tension line compensation policy is a major win for farmers. With 200% compensation on tower base areas and 30% payment for land under the line, farmers will receive fair and transparent support for land loss. The move also helps reduce disputes, speed up transmission projects, and improve rural power supply. Overall, the new guidelines will benefit both farmers and the state’s development goals.
