The maize crop stays safe even during heavy rains.
Raised Bed Planter creates ridges and drainage channels.
Prevents waterlogging and improves root health.
The government offers a 40–50% subsidy on the machine.
Farmers report higher yields and reduced farming costs.
Farmers across India often face big losses due to heavy rains and unpredictable weather, especially during the maize cultivation season. But now, a modern sowing technique using a Raised Bed Planter Machine is helping farmers protect their crops, reduce costs, and increase yield, even during excess rainfall. This technology is gaining popularity among maize, oilseed, and pulse growers for its many benefits.
The Raised Bed Planter Machine is a modern farming tool that creates elevated ridges (beds) in the field and sows seeds on them while leaving channels (furrows) on both sides. These furrows help in draining excess rainwater away from the roots. This protects the crop from waterlogging and allows better root growth.
Not only this, the machine also places the seeds at an equal depth and distance, ensuring uniform plant growth. This directly improves the quality and quantity of the harvest.
This machine performs multiple tasks in a single run, making it efficient and cost-saving. Here’s how the process works:
Step 1: First, the field is ploughed normally, and then the machine is attached to a tractor.
Step 2: As the machine moves forward, it shapes the soil into raised beds with furrows on both sides.
Step 3: Seeds are sown directly on the beds, and the furrows serve as water drainage channels.
Step 4: During heavy rains, excess water flows out through these channels. In dry weather, the furrows help supply moisture to the roots.
This ensures that the crop does not rot in excess water and does not dry out during low rainfall.
To promote smart and climate-resilient farming, both state and central governments provide a subsidy of 40% to 50% on the purchase of raised bed planter machines. For example:
In Madhya Pradesh, this machine is available under the Agricultural Engineering Department’s scheme.
Small farmers are given special priority under these subsidy plans.
In many states, farmers can apply online through the Agricultural Machinery Grant Portal to receive the subsidy.
The average cost of a Raised Bed Planter machine ranges from ₹70,000 to ₹1,00,000. After receiving the government subsidy:
Farmers usually need to pay only ₹30,000 to ₹50,000.
This makes it an affordable investment for both small and large-scale farmers.
BD Arajaria, a progressive farmer from the Panagar block of Jabalpur district, used this technology to sow maize. Despite heavy rainfall in his area:
His fields did not flood.
The growth of his maize plants was healthy.
He noted a reduction in farming costs and better quality produce.
Inspired by his results, other nearby farmers are now adopting the same technique.
Protection from Waterlogging: Drainage channels carry away excess rainwater.
Water Conservation: Channels help retain and distribute water during dry periods.
Root Health: Raised beds prevent root rot caused by water stagnation.
Cost-Effective: Reduces fertilizer and water usage.
Higher Yield: Uniform sowing boosts crop production.
Saves Time and Labour: Multiple tasks are done in one go.

For farmers growing maize, oilseeds, or pulses, the Raised Bed Planter Machine offers a smart and sustainable solution to deal with unpredictable rainfall. It protects the crop, reduces farming costs, and boosts yield. With government subsidy support, adopting this modern technique has become both affordable and effective, ensuring crop safety in any weather.
