The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) has already provided clean fuel to over 10 crore women across India. The central government spends around ₹2,050 per connection, which includes the cylinder, regulator, and stove.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government announced that 25 lakh new Ujjwala connections will be given during Navratri, raising the total beneficiaries to more than 10.6 crore women. For this initiative, the government has allocated over ₹500 crore.
Free LPG cylinders under the Ujjwala scheme not only reduce the financial burden but also protect women from smoke-related health problems caused by traditional fuels like wood or coal. This initiative is also seen as a major step in women’s empowerment, energy security, and environmental protection.
The Yogi government’s decision to provide free gas cylinders before Diwali will bring relief and happiness to millions of families. Poor women will not only save money but also ensure their families health with smokeless cooking fuel.
