In a bid to boost farmer income and promote sustainable farming practices, the Haryana government is offering a subsidy of up to ₹1.60 lakh for date palm cultivation. This move falls under the “Integrated Horticulture Development Mission” (MIDH) and is aimed at helping farmers grow high-value crops with minimal water usage and low investment.

Date palm cultivation is gaining popularity in India, especially in states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, and now Haryana. The key reasons are:
Requires less water
Low-cost farming method
High market demand
Fruit can be stored for a long time
Suitable for hot and dry climates
This makes it ideal for regions with limited irrigation resources, such as the southern parts of Haryana.
Under the MIDH 2025 scheme, farmers can get a subsidy of ₹1.60 lakh per hectare for date palm farming. This subsidy is available for both new farmers and those who wish to expand existing plantations.
The subsidy will be transferred directly to farmer’s bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
This ensures transparency and speed in the distribution process.
To help farmers succeed in date palm farming, the Haryana government is also offering:
Soil testing support
Guidance on plant selection
Irrigation techniques
Modern farming practices
These services are provided through Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and the Horticulture Department to ensure that cultivation is done scientifically and effectively.
The subsidy is currently being offered to farmers in Haryana, with a focus on the southern regions due to limited water availability. Farmers in these areas can benefit the most from growing date palms.
Farmers interested in applying for the subsidy can:
Visit their nearest Horticulture Department office
Or apply online through the Haryana government’s agriculture-related websites
Required Documents:
Land ownership papers
Bank account statement
Aadhaar card
Farming plan for date palms on the proposed land
Grown in hot, dry climates (35°C to 45°C)
Best in sandy loam soil with good drainage
Planted in June-July
Recommended spacing: 8×8 meters
Cultivated using seeds or tissue culture plants
Hand pollination is done to improve fruiting
4 to 5 years after planting, trees start producing fruit
Each tree can yield 40 to 100 kg of dates annually
With proper care like regular irrigation, pruning, and organic manure use, farmers can earn high returns from date farming.
Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana has instructed officials to:
Encourage vertical farming to increase output in smaller areas
Ensure quick DBT transfers of subsidies to farmers’ accounts
Promote other projects like mushroom cultivation, especially in Sonipat and nearby districts
