Chhattisgarh Budget 2026: ₹10,000 Crore for Farmers, Paddy at ₹3,100 and Free Electricity Worth ₹5,500 Crore

Key Highlights:

  • ₹10,000 crore allocated for Krishak Unnati Yojana.

  • Paddy procurement at ₹3,100 per quintal continues.

  • ₹5,500 crore for free electricity up to 5 HP pumps.

  • ₹150 crore top-up subsidy for oil palm cultivation.

  • ₹90 crore for dairy development and plant modernization.

There is big relief for farmers in Chhattisgarh. In the 2026–27 financial year, the state government has presented a massive ₹1.72 lakh crore “SANKALP” budget, with a strong focus on farmers and the rural economy. Finance Minister OP Choudhary announced several farmer-friendly schemes, including ₹10,000 crore for Krishak Unnati Yojana, continued paddy procurement at ₹3,100 per quintal, and ₹5,500 crore for free electricity to farmers.

This is the third budget of the Vishnudev Sai government, and it clearly shows the government’s commitment to strengthening agriculture, rural livelihoods, and women's empowerment.

₹10,000 Crore for Krishak Unnati Yojana

The biggest highlight of the Chhattisgarh Budget 2026 is the extension of the Krishak Unnati Yojana. The government has allocated ₹10,000 crore for this scheme to directly support farmers.

Paddy procurement will continue at ₹3,100 per quintal, ensuring income stability for lakhs of farmers in the state.

This year, the scheme has been expanded beyond paddy. Farmers cultivating pulses, oilseeds, maize, kodo-kutki, ragi, and cotton will also receive benefits under the Krishak Unnati Yojana. The main aim is to promote crop diversification so that farmers do not depend only on paddy and can earn better profits from different crops.

₹5,500 Crore for Free Electricity to Farmers

Another major announcement is the continuation of the free electricity scheme. The government has made a provision of ₹5,500 crore to provide free electricity to farmers using agricultural pumps up to 5 HP.

This step will significantly reduce irrigation costs. Lower power expenses will help farmers increase their savings and make farming more profitable.

Focus on Self-Sufficiency in Edible Oil and Pulses

The Chhattisgarh government has also announced major steps to make the state and the country self-sufficient in edible oil and pulses production.

Under oil palm cultivation, farmers will get an additional top-up subsidy of ₹150 crore over and above the central government subsidy.

For the Pulses Self-Sufficiency Mission, ₹100 crore has been allocated.

Under the National Edible Oil Mission, ₹90 crore has been provided.

To promote chemical-free agriculture, ₹40 crore has been set aside for the National Mission on Natural Farming.

These steps will help reduce dependency on imports and increase farmers income through diversified crops.

Big Push for Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry

To strengthen rural livelihoods, the budget has given special focus to dairy and fisheries.

A total of ₹90 crore has been allocated for overall dairy development. Milk processing plants in Raipur, Bilaspur, and Jagdalpur will be modernized to improve efficiency and quality.

To promote fish farming, an integrated Aqua Park will be developed at a cost of ₹5 crore in the Hasdeo Bango reservoir of Korba.

For animal husbandry, ₹8 crore has been allocated for breed improvement and ₹10 crore for green fodder production.

These initiatives will create more income opportunities for farmers beyond traditional crop farming.

Major Allocations for Rural and Farmer Welfare

The budget also includes significant allocations to support farmers and rural development through various departments and schemes:

  • Markfed (Paddy Procurement): ₹6,000 crore

  • Food and Civil Supplies: ₹12,820 crore

  • Panchayat and Rural Development: ₹16,560 crore

  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural): ₹4,000 crore

  • Chief Minister Food Assistance Scheme: ₹6,500 crore

  • Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme: ₹820 crore

  • Deendayal Upadhyay Landless Labourers Welfare: ₹600 crore

  • Prime Minister's Fisheries Scheme: ₹200 crore

  • Watershed Management Programme: ₹170 crore

These provisions aim to strengthen the entire rural ecosystem, from crop procurement and insurance to housing and food security.

A “Sankalp” Budget Focused on Farmers

The ₹1.72 lakh crore Sankalp Budget 2026-27 is designed to support farmers at every level. With paddy procurement at ₹3,100 per quintal, ₹10,000 crore under Krishak Unnati Yojana, ₹5,500 crore for free electricity, and special missions for oilseeds, pulses, dairy, and fisheries, the government has made agriculture its top priority.

This comprehensive budget is expected to boost farmers income, promote crop diversification, reduce farming costs, and strengthen the rural economy of Chhattisgarh in the coming years.
