The Rajasthan government is making a major change in the fencing subsidy scheme to benefit small and marginal farmers. 75,000 Farmers to Get Benefits in 2025-26

During the Question Hour in the State Assembly, Minister of State for Industry KK Vishnoi announced that Rs 324 crore has been allocated for the fencing scheme in the 2025-26 budget. This will help 75,000 farmers. In the 2024-25 budget, Rs 216.80 crore was allocated for fencing subsidies, benefiting 50,000 farmers.

In 2023-24, 467 applications were received in the Gadhi assembly constituency for fencing subsidies. Out of these, 177 applications were approved, while 290 were rejected due to ineligibility under scheme guidelines.

Land Limit Reduced to 2.5 Hectares

The Rajasthan government aims to support farmers by controlling the issue of stray animals damaging crops. To make the scheme more accessible, the minimum land limit for collective applications is being reduced from 5 hectares to 2.5 hectares. This change will make it easier for small and marginal farmers to apply for fencing subsidies.

Increased Benefits for Farmers

Stray animals often destroy standing crops, causing major losses to farmers. With the revised fencing subsidy scheme, farmers will receive better protection for their fields. The government has relaxed the eligibility criteria, ensuring that 30% of the total district-wise subsidy target will go to small and marginal farmers. These changes are expected to encourage more farmers to participate in the scheme.

Subsidy Details

Farmers can include existing raw or concrete walls along with the 400-meter fencing to avail the subsidy. If the fencing extends beyond this, the farmer will bear the extra cost. The scheme provides a subsidy of 50-60% on fencing costs. Small and marginal farmers can get up to 60% subsidy, while other farmers will receive up to 50%.

How to Apply

Farmers can register online on the Agriculture Department’s website to apply for the fencing subsidy. Scheduled tribe farmers with at least 0.50 hectares of land and general category farmers with a minimum of 1.5 hectares can apply. Farmers with 1.5 hectares of land in one place are eligible for benefits. If a group of more than 10 farmers applies together, their total land area should be at least 5 hectares. However, the government is considering reducing this collective land limit by half.

CMV360 Says

This change in the fencing subsidy scheme is expected to benefit thousands of farmers in Rajasthan, helping them protect their crops and improve their agricultural productivity. With reduced land requirements and increased subsidies, small and marginal farmers will have better access to government support, ensuring a more secure and profitable farming environment.
