Farmers often need various types of agricultural machinery for farming. Modern agricultural machinery can make farming easier and more efficient. However, the high cost of these machines means not every farmer can afford them, even with government subsidies. To assist financially weak farmers, a new initiative is providing agricultural machinery at affordable rates. Under this scheme, farmers can rent machinery for as low as Rs 50 to Rs 300.
At Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Koderma, farmers receive free guidance on farming from agricultural scientists. Now, a Custom Hiring Center has been established at the Science Center. Farmers can rent various types of agricultural equipment for agriculture and farming from this center, including Rotavators, Cultivators, Reapers, Paddy Transplanters, Threshers, and Multicrop Threshers. These machines are available at very cheap rental rates, making them accessible to more farmers.
According to media reports, the Custom Hiring Center at KVK Koderma is a Government of India initiative. It primarily assists economically weak Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) farmers. While many modern agricultural tools are available on the market, their high prices make them unaffordable for many farmers. The KVK initiative addresses this by providing essential farming equipment to SC and ST farmers at affordable rental rates.
KVK Koderma offers a wide range of agricultural equipment for farming, from vegetable cultivation tools to paddy farming machinery. Farmers can rent different types of equipment based on their needs for up to three days. The rental rates for various agricultural equipment range from Rs 50 to Rs 300.
Farmers who do not know how to operate agricultural machinery need not worry. Experts at KVK will provide free training on how to use the machines. However, farmers should be aware that if they damage the rented machinery, they are responsible for repairing it. In case the machinery is stolen, the farmer will need to pay for it.
The government has established Custom Hiring Centers in every village to help small and economically weak farmers access modern agricultural equipment. These centers rent out agricultural equipment at low rates, allowing farmers to make their farming work easier and more efficient. The government offers an 80 percent subsidy for opening a Custom Hiring Center, which costs Rs 10 lakh, with Rs 8 lakh provided as a subsidy. Additionally, farmers looking to buy agricultural equipment on subsidy can benefit from the Krishi Yantra Anudan Yojana, which offers a 40-50 percent subsidy on purchases.
This initiative aims to support small and marginal farmers by making modern agricultural equipment accessible and affordable, thereby enhancing their farming efficiency and productivity.
