In a monumental step toward sustainability, Volvo Trucks has revealed an all-new heavy-duty truck platform for the North American market in combination with an extensive heavy-duty truck range set to revolutionise Europe, Australia, and key markets in Asia and Africa. The company's commitment to reducing carbon emissions is underscored by the introduction of energy-efficient models, including trucks running on electricity and renewable fuels.
Aiming for Net-Zero Emissions by 2040
The introduction of these new models is pivotal in Volvo Trucks' mission to achieve a net-zero emission product range by the year 2040. This ambitious target drives a significant transformation and expansion of Volvo Trucks' heavy-duty offerings globally, representing a crucial step in curbing the carbon footprint associated with its product portfolio.
Strategic Move for Global Impact
Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, expressed the company's bold approach, stating, "This is a bold move – we are launching new best-in-class trucks that will set a benchmark for energy efficiency and reduction of CO2 emissions across the entire product range." The new trucks aim not only to accelerate progress toward the 2040 net-zero emission target but also to enhance safety, productivity, and uptime for Volvo Trucks' customers.
North America Receives All-New Energy-Efficient Platform
The North American market will receive an all-new energy-efficient platform designed to cut fuel consumption by up to 10 per cent, simultaneously elevating safety levels significantly. Serving as the foundation for a range of upcoming truck models, this platform will incorporate Volvo Trucks' diverse technologies, including electric and renewable fuel options, as well as efficient combustion engines.
The first model to roll out is the all-new Volvo VNL, set to replace the best-selling truck for long-haul transport in North America, with sales scheduled to commence at the end of the first quarter of 2024.

In Europe, Australia, Asia, and Africa, Volvo is launching the Volvo FH Aero, optimized for energy-efficient heavy-duty transports. This new aerodynamic model aims to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions by up to five per cent, offering multiple propulsion systems such as electric, biogas, and diesel.
The Volvo FH Aero will be introduced market by market throughout 2024 and 2025, with sales kicking off in the first quarter of 2024.
Global Commitment to Decarbonization
Volvo Trucks' move reflects the Volvo Group's steadfast commitment to decarbonization, built on three pillars encompassing battery-electric, hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric solutions, and internal combustion engines running on renewable fuels.
The global launch also includes the company's first model developed exclusively with a battery-electric powertrain, designed for city transport. In total, Volvo Trucks' electric offering expands from six to eight models, covering a substantial portion of transport needs worldwide.
Roger Alm emphasizes the importance of offering a range of decarbonization solutions to cater to varying green energy supplies in different markets.
