The Volta Zero is the world's first full-electric 16-tonne vehicle designed specifically for urban logistics, reducing the environmental impact of freight deliveries in city centres.
Volta Trucks, The European EV commercial vehicle manufacturer, has released its production model, the Volta Zero. However, Volta has confirmed that it has accepted customer orders for the first 300 slots in the manufacturing order.
Volta Trucks has announced a strong start to 2023 by confirming customer production of its full-electric truck Volta Zero, generating over Rs 747 crore in revenue. The Volta Zero is the world's first full-electric 16-tonne vehicle designed specifically for urban logistics, reducing the environmental impact of freight deliveries in city centres. The Volta Zero, built from the ground up with a pure-electric range of 150 to 200km (95 to 125 miles), will save an estimated 1.9 million tonnes of CO2 by 2026.
While these 300 figures may appear to be a drop in the bucket when compared to the 6,500 pre-orders touted by Volta Trucks in a previous announcement, it's important to note that this larger total reflects not only Zero demand globally but also future Volta models, including some that would appeal to larger trucking segments. The full-electric commercial vehicle manufacturer and services provider Volta Trucks is headquartered in Sweden.
Series production of Volta Zeros will begin rolling off the line in the manufacturing facility in Steyr, Austria, in early Q2 2023. The plant is prepared to meet customer demand for its full-electric medium-duty urban delivery truck.
“Volta Trucks made significant progress in the first few weeks of 2023. This covers a significant portion of our 2023 production targets before the vehicles have been pilot tested by customers. This is a significant accomplishment that demonstrates the compelling features of the Volta Zero as well as our customers' confidence in our ability to deliver," said Essa Al-Saleh, Chief Executive Officer of Volta Trucks.
Volta Trucks, unlike other EV trucking manufacturers such as Nikola and Tesla, is not entering the traditional semi-truck market. Instead, the Volta Zero will compete in the medium-duty market, which is often considered the lifeblood of commercial operations, particularly for businesses that need to haul large loads but do not want to upgrade to a larger semi-truck. Smaller variants and a larger model will eventually join the 16-ton model. Nonetheless, Volta executives kept information on those models under wraps for the time being and confirmed that their short-term sales plans would be solely focused on the 16-ton model.
