The Uttar Pradesh government has released ₹493 crore in agricultural investment grants to 9,18,091 farmers affected by floods, excessive rainfall, hailstorms and cyclones. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the relief amount, which has been transferred directly to eligible farmers’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Along with financial assistance, the state government has announced that procurement of paddy, jowar, bajra and maize will begin in affected districts from October 15. The move aims to help farmers recover from crop losses and provide them with an opportunity to sell their produce.
₹493 Crore Transferred to Farmers Through DBT
The agricultural investment grant has been approved based on digital crop surveys conducted in disaster-affected areas. The government has transferred the sanctioned amount directly to beneficiaries bank accounts to maintain transparency and prevent the involvement of middlemen.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that if a farmer is approved for assistance of ₹25,000, the entire amount will be credited to their bank account. The financial support is intended to help farmers manage agricultural expenses, prepare for the next crop cycle and recover from losses caused by natural disasters.
Survey of Affected Farmers Completed Within 8–10 Days
Speaking at a programme in Gorakhpur, the Chief Minister said that heavy rainfall, floods and cyclones during the past week had damaged crops in several parts of Uttar Pradesh. Some districts also reported the loss of human lives and livestock.
According to the Chief Minister, the government completed surveys of affected areas within just 8–10 days and approved financial assistance for eligible farmers. He emphasised that providing timely relief to farmers facing losses due to natural disasters remains a priority.
He also stated that approximately ₹1,000 crore had been provided to disaster-affected farmers and other citizens during the current monsoon season.
Paddy, Jowar, Bajra and Maize Procurement to Begin on October 15
To support farmers affected by excessive rainfall and waterlogging, the state government will establish procurement centres in the affected districts from October 15. The procurement arrangements will cover paddy, jowar, bajra and maize.
According to the Chief Minister, no threshold has been set for purchasing farmers produce under the announced arrangements. Payments will be transferred directly to farmers bank accounts, helping simplify the payment process.
Farmers should check with their local administration for district-specific information about procurement centres, applicable crop categories and purchasing schedules before taking their produce to the centres.
Housing and Compensation for Families Affected by Natural Disasters
The state government has also outlined financial assistance for families whose homes have been damaged by floods, cyclones and excessive rainfall.
Eligible families whose houses have been completely destroyed will receive additional assistance of ₹1.20 lakh under the Chief Minister’s Housing Scheme. Officials have been instructed to arrange housing support for these families as soon as possible. Compensation is also available under the applicable rules for partially damaged houses.
The government has provisions for assistance in cases involving livestock losses and human casualties. According to the Chief Minister, the family of a person who dies in a natural disaster is entitled to financial assistance of ₹4 lakh, which is to be provided within 24 hours.
UP Government’s Other Agricultural Support Measures
During the programme, the Chief Minister also highlighted other measures introduced by the state government to support farmers and improve agricultural infrastructure.
He stated that agricultural loans worth ₹36,000 crore had been waived for 86 lakh farmers after the BJP government came to power in Uttar Pradesh. He also referred to the provision of free electricity for 16 lakh private tube wells and the expansion of irrigation facilities across the state.
These initiatives are intended to reduce the financial burden on farmers, improve access to irrigation and support agricultural productivity. The latest relief transfers and upcoming crop procurement arrangements are additional measures aimed at helping farmers deal with losses caused by natural disasters.
Timely disbursement of assistance, effective procurement operations and access to accurate information about government schemes will be important in helping affected farmers resume cultivation and manage their financial needs.
