To boost the rural economy and encourage farmers in animal farming, the Tripura government has unveiled two new schemes, the Mukhyamantri Prani Palak Sanman Nidhi and Mukhyamantri Prani Sampad Bikash Yojna. These initiatives are designed to provide financial assistance to animal farmers and diminish the reliance on imported animal products.
Sudhangshu Das, the state's Minister of Animal Resource Development, announced that the Mukhyamantri Prani Palak Sanman Nidhi scheme will extend an annual financial aid of Rs 6,000 to eligible animal farmers. This financial support aims to incentivize local farmers, promote sustainable practices, and contribute to reducing animal product imports.
Individuals involved in animal husbandry must meet certain criteria to be eligible for the Mukhyamantri Prani Palak Sanman Nidhi scheme. The scheme targets those with an annual income below Rs 2 lakh who own at least one dairy cow, 10 goats, or an improved breed of pig.
By focusing on these categories, the government aims to direct support towards small and marginal farmers engaged in animal husbandry. In addition to the financial aid scheme, the Mukhyamantri Prani Sampad Bikash Yojna was introduced to complement these efforts.
This program focuses on the overall development of animal resources and aims to enhance the state's quality of animal farming practices. The government has budgeted Rs 174 crore for this project, which will help 2,900 livestock producers by the end of fiscal year 2023-24.
Furthermore, under the Mukhyamantri Prani Sampad Bikash Yojna, chicken producers will earn an additional Rs 1,300 each, benefiting 36,053 people.
Sudhangshu Das emphasized the government's commitment to reducing dependency on imported animal items such as milk, meat, eggs, and fish to increase entrepreneurial prospects and industry growth in the sector.
The government has implemented several initiatives, including the Calf Growth Milk (CGM) Scheme. This program delivers low-cost nourishment for high-quality breed calves. This is intended to help the domestic animal farming business.

These initiatives align with the government's broader vision of fostering economic growth in rural areas, promoting sustainable agriculture, and reducing dependence on imports. The schemes not only provide crucial financial support to eligible farmers but also work towards building a robust foundation for the development of the animal husbandry sector in Tripura.
Furthermore, the CGM Scheme is expected to assist around 5,400 female and 600 male calves born by Artificial Intelligence with sexed sperm. These calves will receive balanced ration support for ten months under this scheme, and the government is paying an amazing 50% rebate on the cost of 240kg of nourishment.
The launch of these schemes has been met with enthusiasm from the farming community, as it signifies a proactive step towards empowering local farmers and ensuring the self-sufficiency of the state in animal products.
