The government has established set working hours in many other industries, but truck drivers have been waiting for such a law for a very long time.
Trucks handle the majority of transportation in India. The movement of trucks on city streets, state highways, and interstates continue day and night for this reason. According to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, a law regulating truck drivers' working hours will be introduced, and efforts are being made to cut down on traffic accidents by 50% by the end of 2025.
He said the road ministry is committed to reducing traffic fatalities and injuries and has undertaken numerous initiatives across all 4Es of Road Safety — Engineering, Enforcement, Education, and Emergency Care. He participated in the outreach campaign "Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan".
These truck drivers' sleep is interrupted when they travel a long distance. Trucks frequently cause terrible accidents in which the drivers perish. Since there aren't many truck drivers, they must work day and night. They are unable to fully rest. The government has established set working hours in many other industries, but truck drivers have been waiting for such a law for a very long time. Truck drivers will soon also receive their rights. The government will introduce legislation to regulate truck drivers' working hours.
According to studies, the age group between 18 and 45, which is also the most productive age group, accounts for the majority of road accident fatalities. Therefore, it is not just a loss of life; it is also a loss of the family's primary breadwinner. Furthermore, male road users make up more than 80% of the victims, which adds to the burden on the families whose sole provider has passed away.
Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, has stated that truck drivers' working hours will be set. The government will enact a law in this regard. The rights of truck drivers will be completely protected by this law. Gadkari recently stated during a speech at a Road Safety Week event in Delhi that there will be a 50% decrease in traffic accidents by the end of 2025.
Big B Amitabh Bachchan, Sadhguru Maharaj, the founder of the Isha Foundation, and other dignitaries were present on this occasion. According to a formal statement, road safety week programs also provide instruction on traffic laws related to preventing accidents. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has organized street gatherings in many locations throughout Delhi in support of this. Additionally, competitions in schools were organized.
As part of Road Safety Week, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways organized a camp where the truck and other vehicle drivers could get their eyes checked.
