In a major milestone for the electric vehicle industry, Tesla has officially started production of its highly anticipated Cybertruck model at the Texas Gigafactory. The commencement of manufacturing at this facility marks a significant step forward for both Tesla and the burgeoning electric truck market.

The Cybertruck, known for its bold and futuristic design, promises impressive performance and versatility. Equipped with Tesla's cutting-edge electric drivetrain technology, it aims to redefine the concept of a rugged and sustainable pickup truck.

The Cybertruck was photographed on Tesla's social media accounts, accompanied by factory workers at the EV manufacturer's Texas headquarters.

It currently appears that Tesla will meet its revised aim of starting customer deliveries of the pick-up by the end of September, a two-year delay from the Cybertruck's 2019 debut date.

The Ford F-150 Lightning competitor is the same length (5.87m) as previous competitors but has a drastically different appearance both inside and out. For starters, it has a radical wedge-shaped design, no front grille, angular window frames, and nearly no curvature in the bodywork.

Its body is built of "ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel" and is bulletproof against 9mm bullets. There will be three powertrain options: one, two, or three electric motors.

The single-motor, rear-wheel-drive variant accelerates from 0 to 60 mph/100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and has a claimed range of 250 miles/400 kilometers.

According to Tesla's launch information, it can pull 3400kg, has a payload of 1360kg, and will be priced starting at $39,900 (about Rs 32.90 lakh) before any government incentives. It is claimed that it can charge at the same 1MW (1000kW) rate as the Tesla Semi.

The mid-level dual-motor type has all-wheel drive, a claimed 0-60mph / 100kph pace of 4.5sec, and can tow up to 4500kg. Tesla had previously stated that the model will start at $49,900 (Rs 41.15 lakh) before incentives.

The top-tier vehicle will be powered by Tesla's latest tri-motor Plaid EV powertrain, as seen in the Tesla Model S Plaid. Its specifications include a stated 500-mile/800km range, 0-60mph/100kph in 2.9sec, and the capacity to complete the quarter mile in just over 10sec. It is priced from $69,900 (Rs 57.64 lakh). Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that the towing capacity is 6350kg.

It has an adaptive air suspension with an adjustable ride height under the hood. Musk has stated that the maximum height will be 16 inches, with a 4-inch adjustment range.

The load bay is 6.5 feet long and has a raisable cover, making it comparable to the Ford F-150. Tesla claims it has 2800 litres of lockable storage capacity. This includes the covered load bay plus room in the 'frunk' and sail pillars.

Inside, the Cybertruck can accommodate up to six adults. Its interior is simple, with a dashboard dominated by a 17-inch tablet-style display.

However, exact specifications and sales prospects in mainland Europe and the United Kingdom have yet to be formally announced.

The Cybertruck is available for US buyers to reserve for a $100 (Rs 8,250) completely refundable deposit, with no guarantee that these reservations will be converted into sales. Musk stated that 200,000 people had placed deposits quickly after the pick-up's launch.

As Tesla accelerates its production capabilities and continues to refine its electric vehicle lineup, the Cybertruck's arrival at the Texas Gigafactory signals a new era in sustainable transportation. With its distinctive design and advanced technology, the Cybertruck is poised to make a lasting impact on the automotive industry, propelling the transition to a greener future.
