Tata Motors Limited sold 79,705 automobiles in the domestic and international markets in February 2023, up from 77,733 units in February 2022. Tata Motors is a well-known brand in India's commercial vehicle sector.
Tata Motors shares rose 1.8% to Rs 428 on the BSE following February sales statistics. The stock has gained over 8% year to date but has lost over 4% in the last 12 months.
Tata Motors returned to profitability after 7 quarters with a consolidated net profit of Rs 2,958 crore in Q3FY23, compared to a loss of Rs 1,516 crore the previous year. Consolidated revenue from operations increased 22.5% year on year to Rs 88,489 crore.

In the Overall Domestic CV segment, the brand reported a 4% increase in sales, with 35,144 units sold in February 2023 compared to 33,894 units sold in February 2022.
Domestic MH&ICV sales in February 2023, comprising trucks and buses, were 12,850 units, up from 10,233 units in February 2022. This segment has increased by 26%.
The I&LCV and SCV cargo and pickup categories fell by 21% and 13%, respectively. Tata Motors sold 14,218 units in February 2023, compared to 16,303 units in February 2022, as per the sales data of Tata Motors for the SCV cargo and pick-up category.
In the I&LCV category, Tata Motors sold 4,444 units in February 2023, compared to 5,599 units in February 2022, as per the sales data of Tata Motors.
The overall number of commercial vehicle sales decreased by 3%. In February 2023, a total of 36,565 units were sold, 987 fewer than in February 2022.
Tata Motors' Export CV Sales Report discloses that the manufacturer sold 1,421 CV units in February 2023 whereas in Feb 2022 the company sold 3,658 units. In the export sales category, there is a decline of 61%.
Electric vehicle (EV) sales increased 81% year on year to 5,318 units in February 2023, up from 2,934 units in February 2022.
