Tata Motors announced on Saturday that its total domestic wholesales grew by 3% in March 2023 to 89,351 units, compared to the same month last year.

Domestic commercial vehicle sales were 46,823 units in March 2022, compared to 47,050 units in March 2022. Domestic commercial vehicle sales climbed by 16% year on year to 4,13,539 units in FY23.

The company sold a total of 9,31,957 units in the domestic market for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2023, a 35% increase over 6,92,554 units in 2021-22.

Tata Motors' commercial vehicle domestic sales in Q4 FY23 at 1,12,145 units were 22% higher than the previous quarter (Q3 FY23) and 2% higher than the same quarter last year.

Increased replacement demand, advance buying in anticipation of price increases, and year-end buying to take advantage of depreciation benefits boosted demand near the end of the quarter. As a result, M&HCVs increased by more than 33% compared to Q3 FY23, while remaining 18% ahead of Q4 FY22.

Nonetheless, demand for compact and light commercial vehicles was hampered by high borrowing rates and a strong base effect. Overall, Tata Motors' CV domestic business increased by 22% in FY23 compared to FY22.

Smarter technologies and additional features will enable commercial vehicles to achieve even better performance. "With the government's continued emphasis on infrastructure development, we remain confident about overall CV demand in FY24," Tata Motors Executive Director Girish Wagh said.
