Tata Motors' commitment to electrification, saying it will apply to all vehicle categories and pickups will also be electrified.
Tata Motors revealed on Monday that it, too, is considering electrifying its pick-ups, beginning with the 'Tata Yodha' series, as part of its larger transition from ICE to EVs. Rajesh Kaul, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Commercial Vehicles, made these remarks.
On the backdrop of the unveiling of a range of upgraded pickups, including a bio-fuel pickup option in Hyderabad, Kaul refused to provide a date for the Yodha's electric version. He reaffirmed Tata Motors' commitment to electrification, saying it will apply to all vehicle categories and "pickups will also be electrified in due course."
"We want our electrification journey to coincide with ecosystem growth so that customers can enjoy all the advantages of lower prices that an EV may offer over an ICE. This will take some time, but we are dedicated to the broader aim "Kaul continued.
Concerning the possibility of electrifying the Intra V50 new range, he stated that the applications for this new range of pickups are compatible with both conventional and alternative fuels such as CNG because the products are aimed at hilly and mountainous regions where charging infrastructure is still lacking.
On the increase in capacity for the Tata Ace EV, Tata Motors executive director Girish Wagh stated that deliveries will begin next month. "We are witnessing a large demand for the next round of Ace EVs, but our aim right now is to deliver at least 50-60 per cent of our existing order book before accepting the next phase of inquiries," Wagh said.
Kaul stated that Tata Motors is investigating hydrogen to ICE as part of the "exciting technology road map at the organization, and after CNG and electrification, H2ICE will be the next phase of the product development."
Electric vehicles are now head turners on India’s roads. They are increasingly gaining traction in the minds of Indian consumers since electric vehicles provide a realistic solution to their worries, such as rising fuel prices and growing pollution.
New EVs introduced in recent years have given buyers additional options, and more good word-of-mouth from early adopters has aided in dispelling misunderstandings and overcoming mental barriers to adoption. State governments have also played a role in supplementing the efforts of the central government by enacting enabling policies, so providing a favourable climate for both ecosystem participants and buyers.
As a result, there has been a significant increase in demand for electric vehicles in recent years, and there is growing confidence within the business community to now engage in the establishment of an EV ecosystem.
A Future of Electricity
In the upcoming months, state governments are expected to adopt progressive EV policies, with five states having draft EV policies ready to be presented soon. While the government is incentivizing EV adoption, it is also tightening the emission requirements for ICE-based vehicles, compelling OEMs to include EVs in their lineup. Several automakers have announced plans to launch high-range EVs in the Indian market by FY26.
