The government encourages all farmers to take advantage of this extended period and secure their crop insurance as soon as possible.

The PMFBY national portal will remain operational until August 10, 2024. Farmers can register themselves on the portal during this period. The government plans to involve Common Service Centers (CSCs), banks, and other channels to expedite the insurance process. The notification also ensures that no one else can misuse the farmer’s documents to claim insurance.

Crops Covered Under PMFBY

Under PMFBY, farmers can insure a wide variety of crops, including:

  • Food Crops: Paddy, wheat, millet, sorghum, maize, etc.
  • Annual Commercial Crops: Cotton, jute, sugarcane.
  • Pulse Crops: Gram, peas, pigeon pea (tuar), soybean, green gram, urad, cowpea, etc.
  • Oilseed Crops: Mustard, sesame, groundnut, sunflower, toria, castor, safflower, linseed, nigerseed, etc.
  • Horticultural Crops: Vegetables and fruits such as potato, onion, banana, grapes, cardamom, ginger, turmeric, apple, orange, mango, litchi, guava, pineapple, papaya, sapota, tomato, peas, cauliflower, etc.

Insurance Premium Rates

The premium rates for different crops under PMFBY are as follows:

  • Kharif Season Crops: Paddy, millet, sorghum, maize, sugarcane, etc. - 2%
  • Annual Commercial and Horticultural Crops: 5%
  • Rabi Season Crops: 1.5%

Required Documents for Registration

Farmers need the following documents to register for PMFBY:

  • Aadhaar card
  • Proof of residence (e.g., voter card)
  • Land documents
  • Bank account details (including bank name, branch, and account number)
  • Date of sowing of the crop
  • Crop Insurance Application Form

How to Apply Online

  1. Visit the official PMFBY website.
  2. Click on “Apply for Crop Insurance Yourself” under the Farmer Corner.
  3. Select the Guest Farmer option to proceed.
  4. Fill in the registration form with the required details such as farmer information, residential details, farmer ID, and bank account details.
  5. Enter the captcha code and review the information.
  6. Click the submit button to complete the application.

How to Apply Offline
