With the arrival of monsoon rains, paddy transplantation has picked up speed across Madhya Pradesh. To promote modern farming and reduce dependence on manual labour, the Agriculture Department is encouraging farmers to use Paddy Transplanter Machines. The state government is also offering a subsidy of up to ₹5 lakh on the purchase of these machines, making them more affordable for eligible farmers.
Recently, agriculture officials visited the field of farmer Rupesh Patel in Ujrod village of Patan, Jabalpur district, where paddy transplantation was being carried out using a paddy transplanter. During the inspection, officials explained that this modern technique is faster, more cost-effective, and can help farmers achieve better crop yields compared to traditional transplanting methods.
According to agriculture experts, a Paddy Transplanter Machine offers several advantages over manual paddy transplantation.
Some of the key benefits include:
Reduces dependence on agricultural labour during peak transplanting season.
Covers a larger area in less time.
Saves both labour costs and overall farming expenses.
Maintains uniform row-to-row and plant-to-plant spacing.
Makes weed control, irrigation, and intercultural operations easier.
Promotes better crop growth and healthier plants.
These benefits help farmers complete paddy transplantation on time, even when labour is in short supply.
Experts say the machine uses 18 to 21-day-old healthy nursery seedlings, which are ideal for paddy cultivation.
Since younger seedlings establish quickly, rice plants develop more tillers, leading to stronger crop growth. Uniform planting also reduces the chances of pest and disease attacks, creating favourable conditions for higher production and improved grain quality.
According to Dr. Indira Tripathi, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Patan, traditional paddy transplantation through labourers costs around ₹6,000 to ₹7,000 per acre.
In comparison, the same work can be completed using a Paddy Transplanter Machine for approximately ₹3,000 per acre.
This allows farmers to save more than 50% of transplanting costs, reducing the overall cost of cultivation and increasing farm income.
To promote agricultural mechanisation, the Madhya Pradesh government is providing financial assistance for purchasing Paddy Transplanter Machines.
Estimated machine price: Around ₹14.4 lakh
Maximum government subsidy: Up to ₹5 lakh for eligible farmers
The subsidy aims to encourage farmers, including small and medium landholders, to adopt modern agricultural equipment.
Farmers who want to avail themselves of the subsidy must apply online through the Agricultural Engineering Department's portal.
Applicants must:
Complete the online application.
Submit all required documents.
Meet the eligibility conditions prescribed by the government.
After verification and approval, the subsidy is provided according to government rules.
Using a Paddy Transplanter Machine is a simple process if the field and nursery are properly prepared.
The steps include:
Prepare a healthy paddy nursery with 18 to 21-day-old seedlings.
Plough, irrigate, and level the field properly to ensure smooth machine operation.
Place the prepared seedlings in the machine's tray.
The machine automatically transplants the seedlings at the recommended depth and spacing.
This ensures uniform planting throughout the field, which improves crop growth while making irrigation, weed management, and other farming operations much easier.
During the field visit, agriculture officials also guided farmer Rupesh Patel on balanced fertilizer application, irrigation management, and scientific crop management practices.
Officials said that combining modern agricultural machinery with scientific farming techniques can improve both crop productivity and quality. Following the successful demonstration in Ujrod village, many nearby farmers have also shown interest in adopting Paddy Transplanter technology.
The Agriculture Department believes that wider adoption of machines like the Paddy Transplanter can help solve labour shortages, reduce cultivation expenses, and improve overall farm productivity.
With government support of up to ₹5 lakh, the Paddy Transplanter Machine offers rice farmers an opportunity to adopt modern technology, lower production costs, and increase their income through efficient and timely paddy transplantation.
The Paddy Transplanter Machine is helping farmers reduce labour dependency, lower cultivation costs, and complete paddy transplantation on time. With a government subsidy of up to ₹5 lakh in Madhya Pradesh, more farmers can adopt this modern technology. Uniform planting, better crop growth, and higher yield potential make it a valuable investment. By combining mechanisation with scientific farming practices, farmers can improve productivity, increase income, and make paddy cultivation more efficient.
