No More Speed Governor Certificates for Commercial Vehicle Owners in Delhi

The Delhi government has announced that commercial vehicle owners will no longer need to submit speed governor certificates during fitness checks, as per an official order. Speed governors are devices that limit the maximum speed of motor vehicles, acting like a cruise control system.

The order stated that the installation of speed governors is mandatory for manufacturers to ensure for vehicles registered after October 1, 2015, as per the notification issued by the Delhi government in 2018. The notification applied to all commercial transport vehicles, including light passenger vehicles, registered before October 1, 2015, and set the maximum speed limit to 80 kmph.

The order further stated that the verification of speed governors will be done only at the time of registration of vehicles by the registering authority, and not at the time of grant or renewal of fitness for all vehicles. This decision will provide relief to the commercial vehicle owners, who faced difficulties in obtaining speed governor certificates from the manufacturers or dealers.
