Nissan is testing electric trucks for automotive deliveries

Nissan builds on its promise to achieve carbon neutrality across its operations by 2050.

Nissan now transports new vehicles to local dealerships from the Port of Los Angeles using two battery-powered heavy-duty trucks. The initiative is being done in partnership with logistics partner Avant-Garde Car Logistics LLC headquartered in Smyrna, Tennessee.

Furthermore, Nissan worked with current logistics partner Wallenius Wilhelmsen to establish a charging solution to support trucks operating out of the Port of Los Angeles.

Nikola and Kenworth, two leading producers of electric heavy-duty trucks, will each provide trucks capable of towing standard car haulers.

The new electric crossover from Nissan, the 2023 Ariya, was among the first dealership deliveries with the BEV trucks, to Downey Nissan in California.

Ariya merges cutting-edge design with the most recent Nissan technologies. With eight well-equipped grade levels, the crossover has something for everyone. Ariya FWD models are currently available, with e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive levels arriving this spring.

Nissan and its logistics partners will benefit from the proof-of-concept initiative by learning more about the usage of all-electric trucksfor vehicle delivery. Nissan intends to deploy additional trucks in the Los Angeles area following the initial trial with four BEV car transporter trucks.

Nissan may eventually begin deploying BEV vehicles for a range of logistics purposes based on the lessons learnt from these studies.

Together with developing EVs to make electric mobility available to everybody, Nissan is searching for ways to reduce emissions in other areas of its business. Nissan's Ambition 2030 plan calls for the business to electrify 40% of its U.S. sales by 2030, with more to follow.
