Montra Electric M&HCV has announced a major milestone for its flagship heavy-duty electric truck, the Rhino 5538EV. In just two years since its launch, the Rhino has clocked over 1.2 crore kilometres on Indian roads, proving the large-scale viability of clean, heavy-duty freight transport.
With a fleet of 350 trucks, Rhino has played a significant role in steel, cement, and port logistics, delivering reliable performance and helping reduce over 3.79 million tons of CO₂ emissions, equivalent to the carbon absorption of 181 million trees.
Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director of Montra Electric (TI Clean Mobility), said, “This milestone is a powerful validation of India’s transition to clean mobility. With the Rhino 5538EV, we are proving that electric heavy transport isn’t a distant future; it’s already a reality on Indian roads.”
The Rhino trucks currently maintain an impressive uptime of 98%, showing reliability in demanding industrial environments. Companies benefit from lower operating costs, fuel savings, and faster progress toward decarbonization goals. Montra Electric also provides 24×7 on-site service support to maximize uptime and productivity.
The Rhino 5538EV is powered by a 282 kWh LFP battery paired with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) that delivers 280 kW (380 hp) power and 2000 Nm torque.
Key technical highlights:
Fast Charging: 20–100% charge in 60 minutes (240 kW fast charger)
Certified Range: 169 km under standard test conditions
Configurations: 6×4 tractor trailer (current), 4×2 tractor trailer and 6×4 tipper (upcoming)
This makes the Rhino ideal for heavy-duty industrial logistics, where uptime and efficiency are critical.
Montra Electric has designed the Rhino with drivers in mind. Features include:
Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) for clutchless driving
Low NVH levels for reduced noise and vibration
Smooth power delivery and excellent handling
Rugged chassis, Meritor axles, Wabco air brakes, and a muscular cabin design for safety and presence
Drivers have shared positive feedback, calling the Rhino comfortable, easy to drive, and well-suited for Indian conditions.
