Montra Electric becomes 1st OEM to partner with the NHEV initiative.
1,000+ electric trucks to be deployed on Indian roads.
Partnership enables faster decision-making for fleet operators.
Live pilots to begin soon on key freight corridors.
Supports India’s vision of decarbonizing freight and reducing costs.
Montra Electric eHCV (IPL Tech), part of Murugappa Group’s TI Clean Mobility, has become the first electric truck OEM in India to sign a strategic partnership with Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) – the piloting agency for the National Highway for Electric Vehicles (NHEV) initiative. This major step aims to deploy more than 1,000 electric trucks on Indian roads, boosting clean and sustainable freight transport.

This collaboration is designed to fast-track the adoption of electric trucks in India by enabling large-scale deployment across multiple sectors and routes. The agreement sets a framework for faster decision-making for fleet operators and end customers, supported by blended climate financing and pre-agreed commercial terms.
Montra Electric eHCV will also work with NHEV stakeholders to prototype Connected Commercial Vehicle (CCV) protocols, allowing its trucks to seamlessly integrate with upcoming charging and energy station networks.
As part of this collaboration, live pilots will soon begin on major highway corridors and high-volume freight routes under NHEV’s Tech Trial IV. These trials will test electric trucks in real-world operating conditions, generate key operational and commercial data, and offer a model that other fleet operators can replicate.
Abhijeet Sinha, National Program Director, Ease of Doing Business & NHEV and Principal Advisor, SEPC (Ministry of Commerce & Industry), said: “This collaboration will provide IPL Tech with emerging tech piloting services under the Government of India’s NHEV Pilot. It will address technical and commercial aspects to accelerate deployment by empanelling the OEM in CCV protocols, enabling advanced Intelligent Transport Management Systems (ITMS), and facilitating blended Climate Financing Instrument – AHEM (Annuity Hybrid E-Mobility) for financing 1000+ electric trucks.”
Jalaj Gupta, MD, Montra Electric (TICM), added: “This partnership is about moving from intent to execution. By working with EoDB, we will lower barriers to adoption and make electric trucking a practical and profitable choice for transporters and end customers across India.”
This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s goal to decarbonize freight movement, reduce logistics costs, and strengthen the EV ecosystem. By deploying 1,000+ electric trucks, this partnership is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions and set a new benchmark for clean freight mobility.
