The southwest monsoon is becoming more active across India, bringing widespread rainfall to many regions. According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions are favorable for the monsoon to advance further over the next three to four days. At the same time, the department has issued heavy rainfall, thunderstorm, lightning, and strong wind alerts for several states. However, heatwave conditions are expected to continue in parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
The IMD has stated that the southwest monsoon is likely to move further into the North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, additional parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, the remaining areas of Bihar, and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next three to four days.
The department said that an active weather trough extending from northern Rajasthan through Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, along with cyclonic circulations over central Pakistan, northern Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and southeastern Madhya Pradesh, will keep weather conditions active across northern, central, eastern, and western India in the coming days.
The IMD has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall over the West Coast, Northeast India, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim this week.
Extremely heavy rainfall is expected over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from June 27 to June 29. Assam and Meghalaya may receive very heavy rainfall on June 28. Heavy rain is also likely in Konkan and Goa, Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, and parts of the Gujarat region.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on June 26.
Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph are likely in Haryana, Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh, and eastern Rajasthan. Western Rajasthan may experience dust storms with wind speeds reaching 50 to 70 kmph.
Rain and thundershowers are expected across eastern and western Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. Heavy rainfall is also likely in several parts of Madhya Pradesh, while Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh may experience rain along with strong winds.
Rainfall activity will continue over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. Isolated areas in Bihar and Jharkhand may witness thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. Rain is also expected at many places across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Light to moderate rainfall is likely over Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, and Lakshadweep.
Some areas of Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh may receive heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and strong winds.
Even as several states receive rain, heatwave conditions are expected to continue in parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh for the next three to four days and in Bihar and Jharkhand for the next two days.
The IMD has also warned of severe heatwave conditions in some parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh between June 26 and June 28. People have been advised to avoid direct exposure to the midday sun and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
According to the IMD, maximum temperatures in northwest India may increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius until June 28. After that, temperatures are expected to fall by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.
In central India, temperatures may rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius by June 28, while temperatures in most other parts of the country are likely to remain nearly unchanged until July 1.
The Meteorological Department has advised farmers in heavy rainfall and strong wind warning areas to ensure proper drainage in their fields and safely store harvested crops to avoid damage.
In regions experiencing heatwave conditions, farmers should provide sufficient water for irrigation and ensure adequate drinking water for livestock. In areas where the monsoon is expected to advance, farmers can begin sowing Kharif crops based on local weather conditions.
The IMD expects the southwest monsoon to become more active over the next few days, bringing widespread rainfall to many parts of northern, central, and eastern India. While this is good news for agriculture and water availability, the department has advised people and farmers to stay alert and follow the latest weather warnings due to the risk of heavy rain, strong winds, thunderstorms, and lightning.
The southwest monsoon is expected to strengthen across India over the next few days, bringing widespread rainfall and improving conditions for Kharif farming. However, heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning may disrupt normal life in several states. At the same time, heatwave conditions will continue in parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. People and farmers should stay updated with IMD forecasts and take necessary precautions.
