Mahindra is positioning itself with this new facility to grab a huge chunk of this booming market..

With a proposed INR 1,000 crore ($138 million) investment in a new manufacturing facility in Telangana, Indian automaker Mahindra and Mahindra is making a significant push into the electric vehicle (EV) market. The facility, located in the Zaheerabad plant in Medak District, will focus on the production of electric three- and four-wheelers, as well as cargo and passenger vehicles, with an eight-year investment.
The company has expanded its existing manufacturing operations by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government. For your information, the MoU was signed on the occasion of the Telangana Mobility Valley announcement at the Mobility Next Hyderabad Summit 2023.
The proposed expansion will be mainly towards setting up a manufacturing facility, including developing and producing electric three and 4 wheeler vehicles belonging to the last mile mobility business, at the current plant at Zaheerabad.
According to the information, the estimated investment company or any of its group companies for this proposed expansion will invest approximately Rs 8,1 crore over 1000 years. Given the size of the proposed investment, it is not difficult to conclude that it falls under the category of mega projects under the Telangana government's EV investment policy. The Telangana government facilitated the MoU to assist the company in obtaining the necessary approvals for the proposed expansion.
According to KT Rama Rao, Telangana's IT and Industry Minister, "The proposed facility will hasten India's development of sustainable mobility. A substantial contribution is being made to the Telangana Mobility Valley goal. Zaheerabad is one of the four mega EV manufacturing clusters being developed by the state, allowing the Mahindra company to access the state's cutting-edge infrastructure in the mega cluster.”
Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director of Mahindra & Mahindra Company, commented on the development, saying, "We are excited to consider expanding the existing Zaheerabad manufacturing unit for our new EV manufacturing investment. This investor will assist us in maintaining our leadership position in the electric three-wheeler market."
The investment in EV manufacturing by Mahindra and Mahindra is in line with the growing trend toward cleaner and more sustainable modes of transportation. Demand for EVs is expected to rise further as countries around the world seek to reduce their carbon footprint and transition away from fossil fuels.
Mahindra is positioning itself with this new facility to grab a huge chunk of this booming market and to meet the demands of an increasingly environmentally conscious consumer base.
